in case you haven't caught the news, AMX is going to be acquired by Duchossois, a privately held company whose main business is Chamberlain, which manufactures garage door openers.
More to come....

I goofed. They didn't start as a mfr. of garage door openers. AMX founder took garage door openers and used them to control slide projectors and other media room stuff.

To quote the Iron Chef,

"If memory serves me..." isn't the parent company of Elan, Xantech, Channel Plus, Speakercraft the company that makes bath room fans?

So AMX+Phast=AMX, which changes to Panja, then back to AMX, and each move has some financial shifts of ownership, PLUS I am probably missing at least one move in there somewhere...

Let me just express my feelings about this, gleaned from trying to get product and application information from AMX and Phast about eight years ago, still valid, and said more with sadness and resignation than with any kind of ill will:

Stay away from AMX.

Everybody got that?

I don't want to hear any whining about how they have great products unless you are going to deal with (or BE) the guy who had to replace 200 light dimmers.

And, as the King of Siam is reputed to have said,

"Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera."
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Personally, I'd rather push a Chevy than drive a Ford!

I think that the reason that people are so upset is because unlike Ford, they never made ammends, admitted guilt or apologized.

Did Ford aplogize?

I was wondering aloud on this forum a while back on the reluctance of vendors to apologize for problems they clearly caused. It would help to clear the air, and would make dealers happier about continuing with a brand, but it never seems to come. I've dropped lines for the lack of an apology from a vendor. With all the expense of gaining a new dealer in sales effort, credit check and so forth, why not spread a little zero cost good manners around instead? Is there a legal downside I'm missing?

Probably so. If they (or anyone) admitted to an error, it would open them up to suits. They would be afraid the dealers wouldn't be as nice in accepting the apologies.
It isn't right - but that's the way our world works now. Thank the lawyers.

Hmmm, Very interesting thread....

Duchossis is a venture capital company. They have investments in many companies. If this is correct then all it means is AMX was looking for a round of financing.
