We have a media room were we installed a JVC DLA-HX1 Projector with a Parasound C1, Amplifier, Denon DVD player, and the problematic directv hd10-250 satellite receiver. We already know about the HDMI problem. We seem to be having a problem with the component video output cutting in and out on all channels. We already know its not the cables, we have tested all connections and this is the second sat receiver the customer has gotten from direcTV. Hoping you guys might have some answers for us.

Thanks in advance.

I had the same trouble running the component video of a HR10-250 among other things through a Denon AVR985. It turned out to be a thermal problem. All components were installed in a cabinet with not enough ventilation. I had the customer open up cabinet door until a get Mid Atlantic Qfan And a spare hour or two to install. Had to cut some drafting holes into the basement and a hole for fan at top of cabinet, Plug fan into switched outlet on amp and whala one quite yet cool system with no more drop out on the component video.

We didn't think it was a thermal problem. The system is in a Middle Altantic rack in a closet with an a/c vent with plenty of air space around it. But we will install a middle atlantic cooling fan on it the next time we are there, just to see what happens.
Thanks.

Can you explain what you mean by "cutting out?" Is the picture locking, pixelating, or dropping out to black? Also, is it hooked to a phone line for updates and do you know if it got rev. e of the software yet?

installed a JVC DLA-HX1

Is this a DILA unit? If so, they are somewhat notorious for being problematic from what i've heard. The one that we installed had issues.

WH- The receiver is hooked up to a phone line. the last time we called directv, the firmware update wasn't available. Have you had any updates through a receiver lately?
As far as the picture cutting out- Its dropping out to black. On some channels it does it it constantly every 30 seconds or so and on other channels it does it when a scene changes or when the program cuts to commercial.

Uno- The projector is a DILA unit. We don't think its the projector because it works fine with the DVD player. But I could be wrong. Can you tell me about the problems that you had with the projector that you installed.

Thanks.

I have had problems with these units when connected through component video to Sony rear projection television. The video would cut in & out. There's another thread around here about this problem, with replies saying that other installers have found trouble connecting this with a Sony. Heat was not the problem in my case, and replacing the unit in both cases did not fix the problem, nor did cables.

Haven't had the problem with video, but did have a cutting out problem on the digital audio feed into a Sunfire TGII processor, only on HD channels. It did it in playback also, but not necessarily in the same spot.

Did some research on tivocommunity.com and found some others with the same issues.

Called DirecTV and the CSR/Tech that I got said she had personally had a few instances of it, but I never got any response from them. The threads that I had read said that swapping the unit didn't help anyway.

Did a little looking at Sunfire's web site and saw that they had upgrades for newer processors that fixed certain 'synching' problems on the digital audio. Talked to their tech support and found out that we needed to send the unit in to have upgrades done. We're in the process of that, and waiting to see if it fixed the problem.

If you are switching video through your processor, maybe it has some of the same issues.

There are a lot of threads at AVSforum and tivocommunity.com that discuss this piece. I have personally installed 8 of them, and this is the first one that I have had any issues with.

My .02...

jr-This is my fouth HD Tivo unit and the first one to have the problems. Just wanted to let you know we bypassed the processor and went straight to the projector and still having the same problems. So we know its not the processor.

I think that my suggestion to my client will be to get a HD sat receiver without the Tivo unit. Does Tivo make a stand alone box that can record HD. I looked on the Tivo web site but could not find one. Just curious if anyone knows if there is one available.

Thanks.

No, they don't. None of the PVR's will record in HD except for the DirecTV unit, Dish 921 and whatever offering is out there from your local cable provider. We have the SA 8300HD's here in Phoenix.

Have you tried it over an HDMI to DVI cable?

Have you had this particular box switched out four times already, or is this the fourth of these units that you have installed?

I think the DirecTV box is the best thing going, especially with the Tivo interface. The bad thing is that we are putting in these $1000.00 boxes that are going to be obsolete when DirecTV goes to MPEG-4. I think there is a press release that tells how they are going to deal with the swapouts starting late this year or early next year. I just haven't read it yet.

Good luck.

jr- This is my second receiver in this install, but actually I have installed 8 receivers total in other jobs. The first receiver that we did on this install did not work out of the box at all. Now it seems the second one has video problems. The customer finds it hard to believe that we could have two bad receivers in a row.

The HDMI does not work properly. Every morning the client would turn on the system and have to reboot the satellite receiver. I read another thread about the HDMI problem and decided that switching it to component video would fix it. On this paticular receiver it's not going to work.

Does anyone know if the upgrade for the HDMI is available yet. As of 2/3/05 it was not available.

The client is frustrated and so are we and it doesn't seem like getting another receiver will fix the problem. I am going to suggest on getting a receiver without the Tivo unit built in for now.

Thanks for all the advice.

Steve.

Sounds like a sync issue. Look for tri-level sync in Extrons search area.
