I am going to install one of these on a Salamander Stand. I need to take the TV off it's stand, and the subwoofer is attached to the TV via this stand. When the sub is unplugged , a subwoofer disconnected message appeaars on the screen.I don't need the sub as the owner has surround sound.

I know That Sony's wall mount bracket has a sub built into it but I was hoping to avoid using a 400 dollar mount and having the TV stick way out over the Salamander.

Does anyone know a way to trick the TV into thinking the sub is still attached or have any suggestions for the install?

Thanks for replying.

2 Options.

1. Go through the service menu. Send me your email.

2. Put a jumper between the two pins on the TV set. There are four pins on the subwoofer, 2 are the actual driver and 2 are just to tell the set it's there. If you short those 2 the TV will stop showing the message. A phono cartridge lead works well with a little encouragement.

Been here, done both.

Excellent. I've encountered the same thing and spent the money for the mount.

Why in the world would Sony engineers care if the sub was connected or not, and why would they send an error message to the screen? It's beyond me.....

Because sony LIKE's the're little sub.

Because sony like's to SELL the're $400 stand with the're little sub.

Or, maybe, it's because the're HTIB's little sub is so weak, they think you need one on the TV to try and help it out.

Just like the new black third cable on the Sharps... Don't need it, didn't pre-wire it, now it says 'system cable error black' on the screen, and we have to run it...
Gotta love those Manufacturers...

Who knows why somre manufacturers still try to make their TV's optimum for stand alone use when the only ones who can afford them get Surround sound systems also.

I can't remember the last time I used a TV's cable tuner either.

On the plus side, Sony does alow their XS model speakers to be used as a center channel for those asthetic issues over a mantel. They even allow for this per input so you can use the set for occasional stand alone with the HDMI input for late night veiwing (or to shut the speakers off per input).

Typical Sony ,though, to take something away or add unnecessary features when we finaly get their products to work well with our installs.

Thanks for the feedback guys

Rob,

Thanks for the info. You can find my email in my Remote central profile. I tried to send you one and it bounced back

Going into the Service manual is no problem. My company has two certified sony service techs that can tweak the set.

I guess I would need a Pin config for the sub.

Is a phono cartrige lead something like the jumpers they used to put on the back of amps for preamp jumps?

I really appreciate the help.

For anyone else who needs to, but I am not a tech so I don't know more than this and use at your own risk, got info from Sony service guy.

1.Turn TV off with Power

2.In sequence press Display, 5, Vol +, Power, a green overlay menu will appear

3.Use the 2 until OP US appears in upper left corner (the 5 scrolls the other way)

4.Press 1 until first box after the OP US advances to 17 (the 4 scrolls the other way)

5.Press 6 to change the 1 next to the 17 to a 0 (the 3 scrolls the other way)

6.In sequence press Mute, Enter to save changes

7.Press Power to exit menu and turn TV off

maybe that's just the first way you will find that this one is defective....
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
