I have two ?'s if you don't mind:
Has anyone personnaly dealt with the Control4 line yet. I know that they are rolling out product and training is underway.
Onto the DVD quest:
What do you recommend for a higher end DVD player that has a decent upconversion? I know HK has one that will upconvert to 1080i, but looking for better. Open to suggestions. Thank you in advance.

Theres only about 10 Beta Testers in teh country that have actual Control-4 Gear right now.
I love the Marantz DV9500. The Upconversion is pretty spectacular.

Buy a decent DVD player without up-conversion and then buy DVDO's up-converter and switcher. Tons of options and can be configured for very seamless operation. In contrast, I was totally *unimpressed* with Faroudja's offerings/demos at CES.
The Control4 presentation (at CES) was solid and their gear looks interesting. Compelling enough that I'm sure a lot of people will be willing to give it a chance. There were dozens of companies offering pieces of what Control4 was showing, but they were one of the only ones to have the complete package and certainly the most thought-out demo stations and entertaining presentations.

Just don't go with the Samsung upconverters. The 931 looked pretty good but I have had nothing but complaints about the X41 series.
Have a DVDO at home and really like it. Very configureable and lets the display just display. All other controls are on the DVDO. Plus all descrete codes. Use a sdi equiped DVD player and you really have a pic. Upconverts lousy satalite SD images too. But GIGO.

For a good upconverter, try the Denon 3910. Pricey but awesome. The 2910 is more reasonably priced (MSRP around 700) and still throws a great picture.

Looks like I'm going to be the forum guinea pig. Last night I ordered a whole bunch of Control4 stuff and I'm scheduled for training in Utah in early February. I'll know a lot more in a couple of months.
Wish me luck. Hopefully I won't need it.

Model number on the HK, please. Model 22 and 31 don't, to the best of my knowledge. New product at CES?

Dawn,
You have ordered product from Control4? Any word on an actual delivery? The answer to whether any product has shipped or not is the biggest secret I've seen in a while!
All of the literature, the trade show displays etc look great, but, is there an actual, working product? If so, what is working and available? Any help is appreciated.

Fred,
It is the 31. It states it will upconvert to 1080i.
I cannot get marantz or Denon by the way. Even though I live 40 miles away from those dealers here in town I cannot sell it. I have been searching for lines.

Fred, Did HK actually deliver the DVD31 that they have been promising from CEDIA 2003?

I sent the Control4 folks that very question a few days ago -- haven't heard back yet. They did tell me that shipments would start at the end of February. I don't know if that meant mine or previous orders. Dawn

Integra makes a KILLER high end DVD player (DSP-10.5) that upconverts and can scale other video sources as well. If you are looking for a good line to sell, check out the Integra line. VERY custom install friendly.
Good Luck!

Um, hate to be a pain in the butt,
but HK does not specify 1080i output. I didn't tell you it did that, did I?
It does feature proprietary circuitry, etc., but output spec shows progressive scan only.

Fred, Did HK actually deliver the DVD31 that they have been promising from CEDIA 2003? Installed one in early december. We ordered it up ages ago and eventually abandoned all hope of seeing one outside of CEDIA. Lo and behold, a unit shows up late November. IMO, one of the better setup and OSD layouts I've seen in a long time. Pleasant graphics/theme, logical navigation, very useful and well placed OSD info in runtime. Crossing my fingers and toes with regards to reliability. I need to install a K2 in the master bath sometime this month - I'll poke the 31 with a stick and see if it upconverts but I really don't recall any sign that it could.
