Has anyone seen/used both of these bags? It's difficult to gauge usability without seeing them in person.

I have an XL and i want to get a new bag. The Tech-XL is the obvious choice unless the Tech Pac can hold the same amount of tools. My XL is full. At one point it weighed 50 pounds. I cleaned it out a little and got it down to 35 a few years ago but its still quite full.

The reason i might want the tech pac is that it comes in an all black version.

Mac,

The Tech Pac and Tech Pac LT are really sweet.  Both sides open. I only have the Tech Pac LT on hand, otherwise I'd do a quick video for you.  To answer your question, I don't thing the Tech Pac would hold as much as the XL, just because you could go bat shit crazy stuffing an XL if you wanted to and since you're not putting it on your back, it wouldn't be uncomfortable...But it would be close.

Here are some quick shots of the Tech Pac LT.  A bit smaller, and a slightly different configuration on the inside than the Tech Pac.

THE TECH PAC IS 13"W x 18"L x 9" D
The TECH PAC LT (Shown here) 8"W x 14"L x 9" D

I also have some Tech LC's in stock.  Which are their medium sized bag. Obviously reach out to me before you want to order so I can give you a coupon code for a discount and shipping.  They've been shipping a little slow to me with all of the COVID, but they're showing up in a week'ish.

I think the Tech-Pac LT is the perfect programming/service tool bag. It's what I carry on a daily basis, but I am almost never doing any installation work beyond terminating cables and plugging in components. I have a completely separate tool bag that I use for rough-in work, and my 20v Dewalt stuff rides in Tstak cases, so I load up what I need when I need it.

I've been waffling over a similar decision. I've had the regular XL bag for many years and love it, but it keeps gaining weight and one of the zippers is starting to show some wear. I was looking at the Tech XL to help fit/organize some of the bulkier items and what I carry.

I recently borrowed a used Tech-Pac he but haven't swapped over to try it yet. I agree that it doesn't look like it will hold as many tools as the XL, so I'm tossing around the idea of having two bags if I like the Tech-Pac. The Tech-Pac would be the "go bag" and then a second bag to fill in the gaps for more construction/rough-in work.

Time will tell after I start using the Tech-Pac and decide on the value of one versus two (smaller) bags. Whatever happens there's a Veto in my future. I'd be curious to hear what decision you finally make and why.

Mac,

I went from an XL to a tech-lc and couldn’t be happier.  I was forced to pare down some of my tools and get more multipurpose tools, but it has made me more efficient.  I use the tech LC along with a Tumi backpack and couldn’t be happier with the setup.
