I am looking for a moderately priced receiver that will upconvert to comp video. Any suggestions?
I'll figure it out by the time you wake up tomorrow. Good Night

Integra DTR5.5 great value.

Denon receivers do this as well. I'm not sure which model is the entry for upconverting, but I know the AVR-2805 offers that feature, which is a moderately priced model. I've personally owned and installed Denon receivers, and I must say that Denon has never let me down. They offer some incredibly clean sound.

Thank you,

The AVR-2105 is the entry level model with video upconversion.

Accually all Integra receivers will upconvert from the $499 model to the $3600 model. Lots of other great features too.

Don't know about the Denon, but with the Integras, I remember s-video looking better straight through than it did upconverted, on both an HD plasma and a DLP-RP.

So only use it if simplifying the switching is a necessity. If you have a capable control system & discrete switching, keep the video types separated.

Hell, even the $400 Denon 1705 does it. Crazy. I think Marantz does it at the SR7400/7500 level. Their lower models (SR4500- not sure about 5500 or 6500) converts composite to S-Video, but not all the way up to component.

Its a great feature that I am glad has trickled down. Less then a year ago the cheapest receiver you could get that had this feature was above a grand with models like the 3803.

those receivers don't upconvert the signal in the sense that the signal is enhanced.

also, keep in mind that if a receiver says it upconverts to component, verify that it upconverts standard video as well as S Video, if that's what you need. Not all upconverting means s-vid to component.

This and rob,
and everybody else,

remember that this upconversion, as far as I know, only gives you 480i, which is already quite an improvement because it means less input switching on monitors. Usually.

Watch out with some TVs, though; I know of a Samsung that could not see 480i and 480p on the same input, so you still need to switch inputs on that TV when using an upconverting receiver.

And let's see, the receiver has one component output, but it needs to go to two inputs on the TV...in other words, that Samsung TV actually requires component video distribution to take advantage of video upconversion because neither component input can accept BOTH signals.

Combine that with the fact that Channel Up does not switch you away from video inputs to the TV tuner, and that Samsung is a bit of a turkey. Just an issue to look into before money is spent.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
