Munson, Try a search on this forum. This subject was discussed a short time ago.

coax seal. Hot glue works. Some have advocated super glue but then you better hope the piece never breaks.

If you use Speakercraft Emmitters Super Glue is great. They have a nice Saddle the emmiter sits into. Very snugly.

Staple gun.

Lately, a lot of equipment (Motorola cable boxes) seems to suffer from IR washout, so its been a good idea to put the emitter on top of the unit firing down towards the receiver window. Its not always a viable option, but when it can be done, it works well. Dont have to fight gravity either.

Xantech mouse chield. You can trin the shield to fit almost anywhere. Use 3M red double face tape from Home Depot. The red 3m double face tape wcould probably hold a 42" plasma to a wall. It is the strongest DBl Face tape i have ever seen.

silicone adheasive, but the best thing to do is open the unit up and install the emitter INSIDE the unit over the IR receiver, then test it before you install it. We do this at the staging phase (in the shop)before installation is scheduled. If you have either IR mini plug in or RS 232 input I would use those inputs instead, but as we all know cable boxes can be a pain in the A**.

good luck

Clear RTV Sealant

The best because it actually can be removed; if you are not capable you will leave scrape marks, but it never dissolves the plastic.

The worst because you have to hold it in place for a couple of hours till it is cured enough to release. I cover with blue tape and tell the customer to hold the LED and remove the tape tomorrow. I haven't had a problem with this yet.

And by the way, I only do that once the LED has fallen off. This happens so rarely that it is not an issue.

Use an alcohol wipe to clean the plastic before applying the LED. Most plastic has a tiny amount of mold release compound on it for the express purpose of keeping things from sticking to it.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Number one service call: emitters falling off ( or used to be until I a) used coax seal which is also inpervious to heat or b) follow Mr2channel and place the son of a gun inside the unit. I still place a dab of coax seal to keep the emitter in place.)

After reading enough of these forums I hope our industry never gets called into a spelling bee. It's not our strong suit..........

I advocate hot glue or a dab of silicone.

P.S. - I'm a lousy speller also - just voicing an observation.

I have tried everything and and hot glue is by far the best, everything else is to messy, to damaging, or takes to long to dry.

Don't want to sound like a newbie, cause I'm not, but what is 'coax seal'? Can I buy it at LNL?

Any place that sells satellite supplies. It was intended to be used for exterior coaxial fittings. It is maliable like plumber's putty
