I've twisted a MX900 to get it open several times, but twisting this MX980 doesn't seem to be getting it done.
Anyone know a trick to popping one of these open?

Keep twisting. I used some tools for prying phones apart. Be careful around the top where the RF antenna is. I have taken a couple apart. One of them didn't survive. LOL

I go through the bottom of the remote, where your hands never slide, do whatever to pry it apart slightly, put the edge of an old credit card in, slide it around popping the catches. Works on every remote I ever opened. See:

Medium guitar pick. Push it in between the two halves and then slide around the case.

I’ve used a butter knife but that usually leads to a little carnage. I took one apart the other day using a spudger I got with an iDevice battery replacement. It’s easiest to start at the USB port. I don’t twist, I try to pop out the joints a little at a time. The IR window can be a little tricky to get apart, too.

The best way i have found to get inside an old remote is with a 9mm shell.

Go on amazon and order an open pry tool set. It will be the best money you've every spent, I use something in the kit every week or so.

Update:
Got one open and have removed the screen.
Now to open the 2nd, which doesn't output RF, and borrow the screen from it.
Looking at it, I am not sure where, or what the RF antenna looks like. Always hear about not messing it up, so I'd like to know....
Anyone have a picture, or able to describe where it is, and what it looks like? I see a small round metal piece right in the middle. Is that it?

Pry it apart, starting at the programming jack. There are some videos out there showing it being done.
