The largest distributor on earth is where you can get Ruckus.

We have installed a few Ubiquiti UAP-AC-M-PRO access points (never needed to Mesh them) so not sure how that portion works but I would also recommend if going this route getting the Cloud Key. This will make life much easier to configure all the devices to work together and allow for easier setup of SSID and passwords.

The biggest issue I have found is that the Ubiquiti APs don't like to have static IP addresses (not sure why, but could never get them working with a static), so using DHCP with the cloud key you don't have to try and find all the devices.

Curious you can’t get the APs to take a static IP. I do it all the time via the cloud key, move my switches and APs to specific address space outside the DHCP

How are Ruckes AP's managed? Is there a dashboard, or are you logging in via IP address to manage?

I do a great deal of Ubiquiti, Ruckus, and Aruba. I have never had Unifi have IP issues static or otherwise. Unifi has a very rich management and metrics UI - better than Ruckus imho. You are really talking about Airmax products for the PTP and PTMP connections. All depends on the layout. I think Airmax is better solution. You could look at Cambium as well - good stuff. Airmax, Cambium, Mimosa, etc... are all dedicated to the infrastructure spaces - and I feel do a bit better job. YMMV

You can miix and match as well. I have done Ubiquiti for the distribution layer (PTP and PTMP links) and used Ruckus for the access layer.

Hope this helps.

$400 (Can) for a R510 is a little pricey for a single WAP.

It really depends on the number of APs. They have a controller and also a cloud solution.

If you are deploying 5-10 APs, using the controller is the way to go

Under 25 Ruckus AP’s, id just use Unleashed. Which is a virtual controller that runs on the 1st AP configured. Then every other Wap you plug in, it gets all network info from the master wap.

What? I've never had an issue with a Unifi AP on a static address... Exactly what kind of issues have you had?

I just had a customer give me a couple of Ruckus R510 and the setup was almost too easy. I like how there is no cloudkey-like device and the controller is built into the first access point added. With the mesh touchless network set up, does it do seamless wifi roaming? Would really love to know how canadians are purchasing these.

Might want check out Grandstream WAPs. They are very similar to Ruckus for less $.

[Link: grandstream.com]

We have used them for over a year now and they have been really solid. And they have a free cloud access.

Controller runs on each WAP. Other WAPs can be linked to master WAP unit and linked WAPs adopt settings from the Master unit. While keeping ability to change WAPs independently.
