I have a Sonos Connect Amp and an AVR that share a pair of speakers via Niles APC-2 and SPK-1. The sensitivity has to be adjust every few months for some reason.

Are there any new solutions to this age old problem? Something with simple "A" or "B" IR commands?

The AVR doesn't have a 12v trigger out to switch the SPK-1?

Niles SAS-1 was the better unit; 12v trigger and subwoofer switching as well.

No...cheap'ish Denon for a "budget" system.

Typical situation where "we dont need any of that...just DirecTV to the TV and only Sonos through the speakers".

And then "oh we really need blu-ray in some of these rooms" and then "also apple tv"...and then "we should make it so we can hear the video sources through the in-ceiling speakers"...so the AVR's & AB Switch joined the party.

Why not tell them the only way is a new AVR and a new Sonos connect? Sony ES or the new Onkyos that will have Sonos compatibility will make it easy. If they refuse to pay it may be time to bow out of the science experiment. I know there are parts to make it work, but it sounds like the usage was covered pre sale and they decided to add stuff later. Now you are on the hook for supporting it and it's proven to be an issue.

Why use the Sonos's amp? Oh, right- Sonos have squat for output jacks of any kind.

Does one amp sound better than the other? Can you live with the Sonos amp as the only one in the system? If so, why not use the AVR as the source going into the Sonos' Aux Input?

I found a Niles ABS-1 recently, for a reasonable price. Other than switching to HEOS, which has all of the inputs you could need, it's probably the best option.

Trouble with the ABS-1 is it doesn’t switch the subwoofer. That makes a dramatic difference.

I have ...an AVR...

The reason that this is the perfect post is that it NEVER EVER EVER NEVER matters what model the AVR is. The brand doesn't matter, either, right?

That's supremely bitchen. I wish I had a need for it. It's just great.

Like I said, the model number doesn't matter.

And still, he's not sharing the model number.

This happens often enough that I'm beginning to think I need to make a list and have people initial each thing they do and don't want for each room.

People simply have no concept that adding these things is not like putting a spoon full of sugar into your coffee. Entire systems have to be redesigned, leading to situations like this:

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Where did anyone mention that the system has a subwoofer?

You know that if you buy one, you'll find a use for it. I looked at those a while ago but the problem took care of itself.

Currently the client can use the Sonos app to turn all rooms on because we are using connect amps for each zone. The AVRs are not required.

Do the Onkyos or Sony ES turn on automatically? Or do we need a control system (or factory remotes to manually turn AVRs etc)?

Support is being paid for...im just trying to get out from under the current AB switches.

Sonos Connect Amps went in first. TV's all had just a DirecTV receiver.

There are 28 Connect Amps in the house. 5 rooms have AVR's+AB Switches.

If i take the AVR out-->in to the Sonos how do i control the AVRs with the Sonos app?

I found a Niles ABS-1 recently, for a reasonable price. Other than switching to HEOS, which has all of the inputs you could need, it's probably the best option.
