1 year old system, DirecTV Genie DVR to Marantz Pre/Pro to Sony XBR and another DirecTV 4K Client direct to Sony XBR. Client is complaining about picture blacking out on DirecTV source only and seems to think it's only on CBS channel on both systems.

Anyone had complaints of CBS/DirecTV issues by chance?

We've swapped from MHY to MHX series cables as per Brent McCall's suggestion, but the problem on CBS continues.

TIA

Experiment with different output resolutions.

Set only one resolution at a time. A TV might lose its picture momentarily if the source changes resolution. I don't have any idea why only CBS would be affected by this, but hey, check this idea out.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Go into DirecTV settings and uncheck all resolutions but one. If that doesn’t fix it, go back in and uncheck that one and check one different. Keep trying, and I suspect you will find one that is golden.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Possibly dish misalignment or bad LNB, and one or more sats are coming in weak.
See if you can find what birds CSB is transmitted on and check other channels on that same sat.

I agree with this.

However, if the other stations on that same sat that service CBS is fine. Then a call/email to the local CBS is warranted.

Last year I had a problem with my CBS on Dish, where there was static on almost everything. Except for when it was local shows, my state's news and events. But once it went to national shows and commercials the static was present. I contacted my local CBS station and they narrowed it down to a piece of equipment at their building and replaced it.

IIRC, some Dish systems connect into OTA antennas, and that signal would be subject to local conditions. This is not the case with DirecTV unless the additional OTA tuner is purchased and installed. If that's the case, the OP should have told us from the outset.

"Local CBS station" strongly implies a rooftop antenna, not a satellite service.

This is not parallel to a DirecTV case.

You couldn't be more wrong if you tried.

This is why I wrote IIRC, which means "if I remember correctly." So, obviously, I don't. This was your chance to help Mogul by stating things correctly. Come on, join the discussion!

Is it not maddening when someone just pops in to critique you without bringing anything to the conversation?

I do not have OTA installed on my Dish Network. I pay the $10 a month for my local programming. So in other words I get to watch WFSB, Connecticut’s CBS.

My issue could very well relate to the OP’s issue. It’s just a matter investigating the matter further. First, look at the equipment at the house. Second, ask around that area for other DirecTV users. Third, call that particular station’s tech support. Which is what ended up being my problem.

For Dish and DitecTV, as well as cable. WFSB sends a signal via satellite for Dish, DirecTV, cable and whatever else. They receive that signal on their equipment. From there it gets beamed back to a different satellite (Dish and DirecTV) and they send it back down to earth to the customers.

There is no OTA antenna, but we receive local Raleigh/Durham market stations via Satellite service, so there very well could be a feed problem from the local CBS affiliate to DirecTV. I've spent hours on the phone with station engineers in the past for similar problems via certain delivery channels, so the scenario is certainly feasible.
