WOWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

guess thats a good way to try and get you to spec their lighting. considering lutron is cheaper and now with caseta being fully integrated into control systems means either the price of native lighting will have to come down or you pay for it on the back end with a license.

really really shitty, but the way of the future i suppose.

Found out about it last week. Sounds like tech support is tied up dealing with lighting control calls so they are trying to subsidize the cost by charging us. For us it's not a big deal. We do Crestron lighting. RadioRA can be done 232. Homeworks QS can be too, but the 232 adapter is almost the same price as the license. In the big scheme of things, the cost of the license is small relative to the lighting control system.

Homelogic/ELAN did this for years...so does Savant. The pay-to-play thing is nothing new. It's just newish to our industry.

So what do you get for $500? Is it really just a F-U-Tax that disables or enables a previously working IP connection? In the words of our president...WRONG...SAD...HATERS...

What's the issue? Unless you are looking to jack up the $500 license fee to generate more revenue on your end? An end user cannot call crestron and purchase it themselves, so if anything, it lends credibility to a dealer letting the client know there is a license fee.

All profits to Crestron and none to the dealer for dealing with the process of setting it up?

Honestly, setting up what? Just curious as I don't work with crestron. Is it simply a key you input and the rest is business as usual?

It's a product, a sku, an item etc.... It should be resold. Crestron's not doing "IT" for free, why should you?

Shocking! Not really.

Part of the problem is everyone has gotten real used to many manufacturers creating AND supporting drivers for free and in many cases supporting drivers created by third party's that at any time could break functionality with the control system. And then when that free driver has a problem...let the crying begin usually to the manufacturer first and the third party driver creator second. Remember when you had to create all your own drivers yourself? I do.

If you own a business, you need to find ways to monetize everything you buy and do.

It sounds like you're criticizing the publication of that link, but since you've quote it, you've made it impossible for the original poster to agree with you and remove the link from the thread. If you want it gone, you'll have to get rid of it in your post or monitor this thread forever, changing your post when he changes his.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Everything existing still works
Dealer needs to buy a license to use IP control of Lutron or vantage systems
Rs-232 has no license fee
