Disappointed in the answer they are giving. The whole reason Crestron is successful as a control company compared to random joe building a clone of their hardware is all the drivers and support they have for other products. Since when that is a burden that should be paid for separately.
As to the funding going to support, I am confident the money will go to the company's general funds and not a single new person is hired to support Lutron, etc.
I have a Crestron lighting system in my own home actually and don't consider it being a better experience than Lutron. Programming it is super slow with the kludge of it creating SMPL code that then needs to be compiled. Intercommunication between it and the main control system works but it is sloppy with obscure things like setting up IP tables and such.
If they needed extra money, they should have raised the price of the controller $10 for everyone and be done with it, not tax external competing devices this way.
What happened to the litigation between them and Lutron by the way?

Is Lutron charging Crestron for any license cost?
|
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other. |

Looks like they are/have been: [Link: ewweb.com]"As part of the settlement, Crestron has executed a license agreement under the RF patents and agreed to pay royalties on past and future sales of its products that use the Lutron RF patents. Crestron agreed to design around Lutron’s design patent. "
