Just had to do a Saturday service call for a client I'm trying to take care of. Texted me literally ....HELLLP my Apple TV is not working HELP! She's always doing stuff like this.

Anyway first she had somehow deleted and/or reinstalled Netflix on her Apple TV so it prompted her to sign in again. Instead, she somehow signed up, credit card info and all for a whole other new account using the same email address. Don't ask me how it let her do that. But then she still couldn't get in, she tried entering the password a dozen times but guess what her username still had two mistakes in it.

I'm having a beer now @3PM. When I finish it I'll have an empty bottle will someone please smash it over my head?

Two words- Flash Cards.

I got a text from someone whose TV had no picture, so I went there- I needed to show him how to use his MusicCast in two rooms, anyway and he's too busy during the week. The HDMI cable was barely/imperceptibly backed out of the port on the AVR, which should teach me to check all functions EVERY time I make or change connections.

Didn't take long and he loves everything I did, so......

Why do devices like Appletvs have no "unmask password" option when you are signing them in?

I mean the thing is in my house, who exactly is going to be shoulder surfing me and stealing my itunes login in my living room?

Not to mention after 2-3 tries it locks the itunes account, that opens a whole 'nother can of worms when the client has to create a new password and re-sign in every device on that account.

Richie,
The answer to all of your brilliantly reasonable questions is "Apple."

Though it seems that too many systems make it impossible to see the password, even as you type it, when it's likely to be used in a private situation, such as this one.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Since this was a NetFlix account, the easy way to fix this would ahve been to open the account on a computer THAT WAS SET UP TO SAVE THE LOG IN INFO and go to My Account. If the password still isn't remembered, she could have changed it to something that would allow her to remember it for a few minutes and forget it later. Again. So that when she deleted the app, she could relive this wonderful experience. and take Freddie along for the ride.

That Saturday service call should be an easy $125, assuming it was less than an hour to fix.
I came into this game for the action, the excitement. Go anywhere, travel light, get in, get out, wherever there's AV trouble, a man alone.

I have started to say that all "consumer" devices like game consoles, cable boxes Apple TVs, chrome casts etc are not part of my warranty. If the device responds to up/down commands and you see a picture on your TV then it's not my problem. I started doing this with game consoles a year or so ago and now have been doing it with end user devices.

Too many service calls like this and pissed of clients when you hand them a bill for an issue you had nothing todo with. I will gladly hold your hand for my hourly rate but if you cause a panick service call because of your dumbass password then you will get charged.

Half the problem is these devices won't let you use like TSS123..you have to make up some absurd password like T!ss1$2&3

Nobody remembers these passwords anymore and usually you are only prompted to change it after a long time or a change to the account, your frustrated and you never remember it.

I can NEVER remember my password to my chase account because it requires such a crazy password, same with AVAD (although not as bad)

You can't if you don't talk about it. :-)
