Personally I just wish we could see this thing ship before we all start making jokes about it
agree with you since some of the jokes might not be warranted come out as a bit short sighted and possibly ridiculous (I will get to it later).
for me the issues appear to be
1) would my clients want those white pucks on their walls?
2) IMHO from the pics it looks to be too small
it has 8 channel buttons that look to be the right size on that config but that take up all the space, who lives in an 8 channels universe (are we in the 70's?) what if you want digits that are the same size(would the client need to switch screens to dial into channel "1920"? I would guess it would needs to fit 3x5 or 3x6 such buttons to work well
3) intuitiveness. I like touchscreens because they can be very intuitive, someone walks in and sees "watch movie" and they instantly know what it means, if in a different home there are more options (play DVD, BD, Netflix....) again it can be self explanatory. One thing I don't like about voice control is that it is no longer explanatory (will a stranger walking into the house know to say watch a movie or watch BD because the options are not the same as their house?). In this case I don't think it is as bad as voice (move remote and look at the screen instead of trying to guess what to say) but it can still add a bit of tediousness and a bit more questions from a person that is not acquainted with the system.
the major questions
1) they say it comes with the controller base and three pucks, but how does it actually control the devices (i.e. the screen is in front, the projector on the ceiling, everything else in the closet how do I control it all).
2) are the pucks addressable? they have the three pack so let's say, for a concrete example I get it and set them up for the HT, family room and bedroom what would happen if I bring the remote to a different room (maybe one brakes or is out of power) will it know what devices to control?
Now for the jokes. Unless you tried it with the finalized SW you are looking at it too simplistically. It's not like being in a public place and someone is pointing (waiving) in your general direction and you are asking yourself "is he pointing to me". It will all depend on the precision of the triangulation as well as how well the "hotspots" can be defined, for example maybe you can have a small area where the table lamp is located and an other area "around it" as the kitchen lights (or if we take the TV with multiple connections) higher up towards the center of the screen= option 1, lower: option 2, left: option 3....)? Also don't forget that the screen changes so if you add " table lamp" and "kitchen" (or TV, game....)it should make it clear what you are controlling. Also is it limited to one screen per "direction" or not? Also are you limited to one screen per "hotspot?" or can you point to the kitchen and have the option to pick lamp or kitchen lights (or at the screen and pick watch TV, play game....)
