A lot of us have worked hard to support Sonos' boxes for years, without any assistance or blessing or benefit from them. If they start deciding who can and who cannot support their product, and cutting off those they don't deem worthy, they are going to really piss a lot of people off.

Things like this I'm sure are debated about and IMO they picked the right partners they deemed worthy. They chose tried and true platforms instead of Systems that are not half baked and limped along to say the company is in HA...

There is not a doubt in my mind that sonos is going to officially break the integration that has been reversed engineered to further make sure they control the experience. It will suck though even with all the C4 jobs that I have it in. It will allow me to contact the customer and get back in front of them for possible upgrades. But I'm sure the integration will be flawless with all sources and platforms though so it's exciting...

From the CEPro article...as to how long it holds true, who knows:

A Sonos spokesperson tells CE Pro:

Sonos has a long track record of being as inclusive and agnostic as possible while also being uncompromising on experience – it is un-Sonos like to deliberately give people a bad experience.

We’ve never had a partner program or endorsed integrations until now, so right now nothing that is out there is supported. Creating endorsed integrations is intended to provide the best possible customer experiences.
Whatever that means. I'm guessing the current non-partners might have some trouble, but that's just me talking.

UPDATE: When asked if existing un-supported integrations would keep working, the spokesperson told us:

Correct, we currently have no plans to deliberately impact existing solutions that are not supported, but the key is that they’re currently not supported.

So, is this Pico remote for audio available now?

My worry is that their "official" C4 integration will not have all the features that the now "unsupported" integration has had for years. Hopefully they do not take steps backwards there. EV kicked a$$ with the work they did on that driver and have evolved it into a pretty slick piece of code. Hopefully it does not get squashed. :)

I can see their point. You do not want some hacks out there installing SONOS with half baked integration (either by fault of the integrator or the control system), and giving unhappy clients a bad taste for SONOS by no fault of SONOS themselves. Same reason Kscape never wanted anyone doing custom UIs for their servers. Or Spotify using Spotify Connect.

But they sure dragged their feet soooooooo long to finally make this announcement.
