Gents,
i've been talking with my colleague, and we were discussing exactly what needs to be in the proposal.
My thoughts were that it needs:
Synopsis of work to be completed and the goal of the project a cost breakdown, where each pound is allocated and the payment terms a start and completion date what warranty and training will be provided the equipment used in the install and a drawing of location
is there anything else that needs to be included within the proposal ?
kind regards, jonathan.

On the assumption England has local administrations that regulate contractors, I'd suggest starting there. They should have guidelines for required content of proper contracts, and probably have sample contracts, too.

what is the proposal for, residential or commercial?
We do a basic breakdown of our equipment and prices to go with that, then esitmated labor. If the home owner wants to take us up, we issue basically the same thing with brand names on it (we have had problems with clients using our bid/proposal as a shopping list on the internet).
If the home owner agrees to everything, our contract is a combonation of terms and agreements, disclaimers, warrenties expressed/implied, etc etc etc...
The only time I would swoon anyones head (me personally, my opinion mind you) with all the information you are talking about is if it was a commercial/government kind of job where that information is needed for their records.
But again, thats just me
