What you're looking for is a scan converter. Remember those crappy devices that allowed you to connect your PC to your TV? Yeah they didn't work beyond 640x480 but Extron makes the VSC500 for under $1000. Analog Way makes the Power 1024 for around $500 I think. Both convert 1024x768 or greater to 480i composite video. Yep, a serious pain in the arse.

I am almost 100% positive that the box does have a standard coax output on it. Just run this right into your other TV if it has a tuner.. if not, cheap VCR.

RF output is also disabled when in HD mode...... At least here in Chicagoland with the Motorola COmcast boxes.........

Plus.. We need a Solution.. Not a band-aid....

We should not have to wait much longer... I've been Emaiing back and forth with a supplier that says the box is in Engineering and should be Available "Soon"

so......... What exactly do we "Need"

A Box that takes Component HD (720p/1080i) and gives us a Pass thru AND a Composite/S-video output. Some aspect ratio control onthe Composite output would be nice as many times we're usign the composite to feed 4:3 panels still..... What else???

True, but you wouldn't get widescreen from the composite output on the CATV box if it were active. You're no worse off, except for the massive extra cost.

Um... Thats not the point..... They dont Work with widescreen aspect ratios..... It doesnt matter that the COmposite isnt widescreen, what matters is the Input cabability of the box. If the box cant scan 720p/1080i its worthless...

you can make the dvr box output 480p or 480i and deactivate the 1080i and then you can use composite or s-video.

Why are you running in HDTV mode only to watch
an SDTV Monitor? Use composite and run the receiver
in SDTV mode.

Maybe using the unit to feed two(2) different display devices?

Main display is HD, secondary display isn't?

Maybe a solution is to run the cable box in SD mode, having the A/V receiver up-convert for the HD display.

Yeah, it's a band-aid solution, that would be pretty lame, but it'd work for the time being. At least until the cable companies come up with a unit that outputs both signals simultaneously.
