I'm still hammering away at the CE Pro High-Impact Products of the year. I hear good things about both the VideoRequest from Request, and DVDM-100 from Escient. Any opinions on which is better? (Don't start plugging Kaleidescape here; we already included them in last year's list).

Last chance to plug your other favorite products of the year (already shipping and installed).

thanks,
julie

We sell both, but I would give Escient the edge here for the folowing reasons.

1: Built in Video Switching. THe escient cah switch between three changers out of the box. No third party video switcher is required. The request integrates nicely with a few switchers, and therefore can have more capacity, but most people arent going to go past 1200 DVD's anyway. (To the Requests 1600)

2: Integration with the Audio Server. Your DVDM-100 not only controls your DVD collection, it becomes a client for your Audio Server as well. You can then use the DVDM as a client for your E series Server.

3: Costs less. By the time you add the video switcher to the request, the DVDM is almost a grand less at retail.

We are also dealers for both, and the Escient's built-in switching is a HUGE edge. I would not even consider the Request as an option.

I disliked Escient for a long time for their HPNA silliness. The DVDM restored my faith in them. Now if we could just get a Sony 777ES that isn't DOA.
