Met with a person yesterday that was told by a salesperson at CC that a plasma would have to be refilled at least once every 5 years, at a cost that exceeded the initial purchase price.

And the same person had this stupidity backed up by a salesperson at Sear's on the same day.

What the he** is wrong with these idiots?

They sold this lady a 60+" Hitachi which is of course a HUGE box, when she really wanted a nice trim 60+" plasma. that could hang on the wall.

The utter stupidity of it. This gal would have spent whatever amount it took, but these idiots "undersold" her.

"One will sometimes believe that he has seen all the way to the bottom of the well of human stupidity, and a reminder that that well has no bottom is sometimes useful."

I sometimes whisper this to myself when confronted with that level of idiocy. I hope it will help...

The sales man was probably only sixteen. The salesman at best buy that sold me my fridge i think was only 16 and he had no idea of what he was selling.

stupid is as stupid does....

Mike, It sounds like the salesman at Best Buy did not sell you a fridge. You only bought from him. It is a shame that we, as consumers, will continue to reward those who do a poor job.

Unfortunately the consumer must educate themselve in our current environment "buy it cheap". The consumer's alternatives are:
* Go to high end shops. You pay more but get more service and education
* Use a professional installer
* Educate yourself on websites like this.

That's correct, I knew which one I wanted and went there and purchased it. It sucks that there are no small appliance stores in my area that will provide good customer service. The only small apliance store sells Wolf, Sub Z, U-line, and all high-end stuff.

The true problem is not only lack of product knowledge but the pressure of the big box stores on the sales force to sell service contracts. They are told to sell the contract before the product because of the $$ involved

Because of the pressure the big box store places on warrranties, we were losing sales because of the lack of extended warranties. For the past year we have started selling warranties through Warranty Corporation of America. They allow us to give the same type of extended warranty that the big stores give.

Seriously, I love to arrange the return of bad products to the big box stores......Once the customer talks to us, they believe us.

If you keep a nitelight on in the room with with the set and NEVER get your vacuum cleaner closer than 8 feet from the set, them plasmas will pretty much stay put. I tell this to all my customers and I'll bet some of them are gonna get 7 or 8 years between plasma refills.

the biggest lie I have heard as of YET, was a SP telling a client that same pitch, but the extraordinary thing about the system was that the image was displayed on pure plasma gases... and an LCD was truely a liquid inside a "Tank"

When I heard that I couldn't help myself, I turned around without missing a beat and said, "I am sorry I don't often do this, but STFU!" The I turned to the client and calmy apologized for my behavior, then I said, "Ma'am, Plasma TVs are phospher based TVs, just like your old tube at home, they etch phospher strips onto special glass, and then use a gas to "excite" the phospher. They DO NOT need to be refilled, but because they are no different in technical terms from your tube TV, the colors will fade over 15 to 20 years (if it lasts that long) and logos like ones displayed on CSPAN will burn its shadow on the TV. I can provide you with more information if you would like, and you can make up your own mind"...

The lady asked me where I got my information, because she said that my explaination was even more far fetched that the SALES PERSONS! To which I reply'd, "Ma'am I don't write em, I just try to learn em... and educate those that need it, I am not trying to sell you anything, personally I prefer my clients to buy the TVs themselves, Buy it because it looks pretty, buy it because it's a new technolgy, but don't buy it because you don't know the difference between my truth and his BS..."

The Lady called me back 2 weeks, she purchased a Fujitsu 50ish incher...

I have found that truth is the one thing that hurts the most when spoken outloud, and the hardest thing to beat into a clients head when educating... some people drink from the water, and some people foolishly piss in the water supply lol

you seriously prefer this?

I do, IF it's a small set, or an old tube item. Why sell an item for $500.00 to make $50.00 or less?
