Is it possible to make composite (Yellow, Red, White) out of three 16/2 wires?

I have three pair of 16/2 and one Cat5 and I need to get composite down the wall with these wires... without a Balun or other converting device because, well I need to do it tomorrow morning.. So I was wondering if I soldered RCA ends to the 16/2 if it would work...

Doubtful, wrong impedance. Try replacing it with 3 runs of RG-6...

i wish i could replace it.. what would happen? I just pulled out a semi full reel of 16/2 and rigged some ends on it and used it for video in in the showroom and it worked fine.. but i could have just gotten lucky..

Try it. If it works, it doesn't much matter what we or theory says.

I get the impression that you cannot change this wiring in any way. If you could, I would recommend twisting the 16-2 or just using the CAT5.

A short length of the wrong wire might just work perfectly. Then again, there might be hum, which in video is one or two horizontal darkish areas slowly scrolling up the screen.

I have used CAT5 to send a 318 mHz antenna signal from one floor to another, and it worked well. In fact, it did not work at all with the antenna disconnected, but did work with it connected, so it was not just the CAT5 itself picking up the signal, but rather it was transferring it. So try it!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Hey Eric..

If you have a cat5, Leviton makes a Quickport module that is 110 punchdown, and available for composite, audio, and S-video. I know they're in stock at ECD.

I'm going for it this morning.. I tested it with Cat5e yesterday in the showroom and it worked okay so I'm going to try it at his place.

Mike, unfortunately it is two different homes, and not done by a trunk slammer.. After our visit here at my shop I'm sure you can think of the big security company in town that could have easily screwed up this and many other homes..
Oh we need to get together and finish our meeting.. It is a definite on TES expanding out there... So let's try to make it work. :)

I was thinking of that large security company when I read the other post.

We do need to have our second meeting. drop me an email or call, and let's see what we can come up with.

Okay, the connections went good.. I figured I would leave the results here in case anyone ever looks at this later on..

I used three pair of the Cat5e..
I used non-solder type RCA ends for each pair.

Worked great.. well, good enough for composite..
