Sonance gets my vote as well.

Last time I looked, there were some Ellipse available on closeout. 32 degree angled fronts if I recall.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Don't know if you have access to Origin Acoustics, but I installed a pair of D84 in my living room and I was totally (and still are) on my a$$!

They are incredible!

More detail please...?

Lots of nice options out there.

Another one is the KEF motorized CI200.3QT. I have installed them and they do sound good, and the price is actually pretty reasonable. It would sure add a "cool factor".

I am not a Totem dealer, and none near me, but those Tribe in-ceilings look legit! I could probably get the B&W CCM7.x if I wanted. I was really impressed when them when I worked at a B&W dealer. I never installed the ceiling models but the in-walls were ridiculously good...and reasonable cost as well.

Origin Director 8x and 10x models look good on paper. I saw mention of "wood backboxes" somewhere but see nothing about them on their site. D86 might make it on my short list. Anyone willing to share pricing on Origin, PM me. I thought I read that the D108 retails for $3500/pair? Stonk!

Keep the ideas and opinions coming. I always drag my feet through this research phase before I make a move. I need to quit that habit and just get on with it. :) The Episodes have me almost curious enough to just order a pair and try them out. Maybe if I complain about them on the internets, they will fly me out for a meet and greet and give me a free set for my troubles. :P

Agreed Totoem Kin in ceiling. We've done 3 recent projects with them and they sound great. Full totem tribe in ceilings is like having a tower speaker in your ceiling . Okay maybe not the low end of a tower but close. Just connect a good amp and enjoy.

the kin in ceilings can work in more budgets
do wino hue?

I am not a huge Boston fan, but several years ago, we did a 7.1 in ceiling system with all Boston VRixxx which looks like the newer VSi5830. It sounded incredible!! Better than any other in ceiling system we ever did (which admittedly is very, very few) we paired it with a Denon receiver. It was a large room with 12 foot flat ceilings.

+1 on these. Doing a front array of them in a model home I am building.

When it comes to home theater application, I always prefered 3-way speakers rather than 2-way. The mid is the most important range when listening to a movie.

On the D84, the mid/tweeter assembly can be aligned to the sweet spot, plus the tweeter itself a little more for fine tuning.

The mid that is coming from these speaker is simply amazing. Even with the D82, which are 2-way speakers, they made the crossovers sound more mid than a usual 2-way speaker.

The 8-inch woofer produce a deep, well-controlled bass.

The result is an awesome speaker, with a lot of power handling.

On top of it, their mounting bezel works just fine. I was a bit skeptical at first, but this is a game changer for me.

To have to ability of replacing a speaker just by unlocking it from the bezel is just perfect.

Don't know in the US, be the D84 are retail 750$/CAN each.

TruAudio Revolve 8" (Rev8-LCR.1) These are great in-ceiling LCR's. 3way speakers, mid and tweeter are on a rotating bridge for aiming. Woofer is angled 30 degrees. The are my go-to for this application.

I've compared the Episode HT700 (which will likely be replaced soon) to the Sonance LCR.5S and think the Sonance sounds significantly smoother.
The less I say, the smarter I will appear

any speaker without back box in ceiling will sound bad, I have very successful installation with PROFICIENT LCR in-ceiling speakers. During factory promotion, you can get them very cheap, but they are VERY good speakers, worth a try.
Customers loves them!!

What makes you say that the episode model will be replaced soon ? Are you thinking they will do a signature version?

Proficient eh? I've often wondered about them as I see them on sale fairly often, but the price deterred me. Do they have cans available for them? For retrofit?
