I am designing a modest system for my own living room and environmental restrictions are swaying me towards using in-ceiling speakers all the way around (5.1). I am not a huge fan of using in-ceiling speakers for video applications due to the less than optimal dispersion characteristics....especially for front LCR locations.

The forced compromise is made more attractive by the use of purpose built speakers with angled baffles. I am looking at the Episode ES-HT700-ICLCR-5 as an option. The price is good. The few reviews are positive. And they look to be well constructed enclosures.

Similar options I can get my hands on would be the Klipsch KL-7502-THX, Martin Logan Vanquish, Revel C763L, Def Tech UIW-RCS-II, Boston VSI5830, and maybe Triad products...not sure we can still get them or not. Budget is not over the top, which is why the Episode is looking good on paper.

Any thoughts/experiences?

We still like the Sonance Cinema Series LCRs. They have been a good fit for us.

We also liked the Definitive Technology UIWIII although I thought it was a tad bright -they do offer great detail.

Lastly, I have been quite fond of the Origin Acoustics Line. While they do not have an exact replacement model - some of their aimables have really impressed us.

I am not a huge Boston fan, but several years ago, we did a 7.1 in ceiling system with all Boston VRixxx which looks like the newer VSi5830. It sounded incredible!! Better than any other in ceiling system we ever did (which admittedly is very, very few) we paired it with a Denon receiver. It was a large room with 12 foot flat ceilings.
I love supporting product that supports me!

Come to think of it, my favorite client has a theater room with Boston VSI5830 in it! I need to get over there and really listen to it. We did not install it, but he says it sounds great.

Looks like it is discontinued though with no replacement that I can find.

Side note...anyone try the James EMB21 21" monster subwoofer? :P

Of the ones you mentioned, I'd lean towards the logans, Def tech, triad, revel. Not necessarily in that order, episode and Boston would be in the bottom of the list.

In my two surround systems I have triad gold lcr in my theater and def tech uiw II in my family room. Happy with them both. I have some logans in my office which sre nice, but I'd like to step them up a bit.

We use Triad for that, and they are fantastic. I have heard the Episodes and they actually sounded great. I wouldn't hesitate to use them in my own house.

Totem Kin are that deal. Totem Tribe are awesome as well as the Triad line up. Def Tech has some that are cool too but the Kin's are my favorite.

We have done several Triad based systems and they all sounded awesome.

If I was putting in-ceiling surround in my own house that's what I would fit.
What do you mean you wanted it on the other wall - couldn't you have mentioned this when we prewired?

Don't know if you have access to Origin Acoustics, but I installed a pair of D84 in my living room and I was totally (and still are) on my a$$!

They are incredible!

I recently did a system using RBH VM series 6" speakers in the ceiling with a 12" SX/R sub. The front three (VM615L) were of the angled baffle style.

I was very impressed and the customer was ecstatic.
