I love how in the first sentence he makes a point of telling you he's and engineer.

I think he should have been asked to prove it. At least to show his pocket protector, slide rule and blue & white striped cap.

This is an Engineer at his best. Literally the first thing out of his mouth is "I am an electrical engineer."

While I abide by my dealer agreements, in general I don't have any issues giving the user a copy of his configuration.

I believe the person who suggested that the software is in the remote was actually pulling the leg of whoever didn't catch the facts. See, that sounds like "the software is in the remote" but actually the software is needed to work with the configuration.

As far as the original "electrical engineer" is concerned, I don't know why he would want to mess with the commercial controllers.

You know, that's a good point! Why do electrical engineers come here and bitch about the software policies of our suppliers, when such more sophisticated systems are part of their daily lives?

My engineer friends would be happy to have me to supply them with something, than waste their time learning yet another platform -- and they are capable of designing any of this.

Might I point out that these guys you speak of are wise and show respect not only for their own spare time but for you. The jerk who wanted to buy the software said he knew it was easy to learn but he had never done it. Equally ignorant douches ban books and movies they haven't read or seen, too.

Reminds me of "A vegan, a personal trainer, and an electrical engineer walk into a bar. Three minutes later everybody knows it."
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

This is a rule they need to follow, just like a New Yorker has to tell you they are from New York.

The engineers I know don't act that way.

Selling a MRX-10 and i received this "question" from the guy

I am an electrical engineer and want to program my system on my own. I fine it ridiculous that URC does not give the software out with their product. A moderately trained monkey could program this stuff. Well I assume thats the case, I haven't actually programmed any of this yet since I don't have the software, but its not rocket science. Anyway, I assume you are providing the software with this unit, right? I want to make sure I am getting a "complete" system and not someone trying to pull one over my eyes by selling a useless paperweight.

My Response:

Hello XXXXXX,

I am a highly qualified CI that has spent years building a successful business around professional products. I find it ridiculous that anyone should assume they know better and assume what we do as an industry isn't rocket science. I also spend countless hours out of my week trying to make things work that electrical engineers design and never seem to actually use what they design. It truly is not rocket science after all! You know what rocket science is? not jeopardizing my dealership by providing you the software for a "paperweight"!

Thanks for looking :)

His Response:

Easy there chief. Did I hit a nerve? It's not your policy, it's URC's. Why are you all bent out of shape over a stupid policy some company that is not your made? Don't get all butt hurt. So, are you gonna provide the software?

My Final response:

I am pretty sure I'm not the one Butt Hurt over URC's policy,Infact I embrace it. There is a reason they don't offer it to end users; and to put it bluntly that is to protect dealers that have spent a substantial amount of time and investment into learning the software and products.

And no I will not be providing the software with the sale.

Thanks for looking!

Let me ask you this... As a member of RC since 2002, will you give me the URC software so that I can program a remote?

I am honestly wondering what I am going to do if my Pronto TSU-9400 goes bad or what not. I'd like to keep the ability to change the layout and functions as I do every several months.

If he offers it to you, for a longevity option. is it all good?

I think, if he would have caved, and its NOT SO GOOD.....I like the few benefits we have for exclusivity.

If his answer is no, I was going to say to post my question and his answer to this guy on eBay. So that he'll "get it" on why it won't happen.
