The people proclaiming about the precedent this sets, are people who's money isn't on the line. Sony is a business, this is a business decision. there were some chains that did cancel their showings, so you are right on that. I also think people are missing the obvious. There is nothing stopping Sony in 6 months or a year or at any other future date from releasing the film in theatres.
