Today I stopped by the property and uploaded a pay-your-bill macro.

With this particular control system, there is a built-in looping macro. In this looping macro are the commands to power off every component in the house every 25 seconds. This system is roughly a 6 zone distributed A+V deal. It's very simple, turn anything on and 25 secs later - power off occurs.

I've given the guy 8 weeks to pay his balance of the bill. He's ignored emails, texts, v-mails, etc.

I uploaded the macro today. Tomorrow I leave for a 6 day getaway. I'm the only one with the file.

UPDATE 6/19/14: Client sent a text and said their re-fi had come through. They Even sent a picture of the cashiers check with $200 added. Client stated that the control system wasn't working so he just unplugged it. They resorted to using the directv app for channel changing at least. New business model - break system, get more $

So you broke the system? Pretty sure you could be up for a legal battle there. It sucks when they don't pay but you cannot just break the system

^^What he said^^

I'm certainly not a lawyer, but if I were, and if I happened to be employed by you, my behind the scenes advice would be to never admit you did anything to his system. When he calls to tell you something is wrong...feign ignorance to the problem.

All of this advice would be predicated by asking you to immediately delete this thread, of course, but like I said, I'm no lawyer...

Yeah you can't do that... PLUS if he THINKS the system is broken, that'll give him ammunition to return it all for a refund. Just saying...

The macro triggered today because the system hit the 8 week mark with no payment. Tomorrow I leave for a 6 day getaway. I'm the only one with the file.

I fixed it for you.

Collect final payment when you demo the finished system. Get it in your contract.

Nice mac, sorta a built-in approach.

Are you guys really suggesting that this will connect the dots back to us? Gimme a break. Here's what I'll do if the dots do connect (and I promise to 'fess up). Of those who attend Cedia this year, all bar tabs will be paid by us - every night.

Sign me up. And yes we also have built system lock up for those that don't pay on time. It is a feature built in that clients know about. It's just like any other softwares free trial period.

Enjoy the downtime.

I'll admit, that I've done the same thing. I only admit it now because the client is in prison for 50 years for running a Ponzi scheme, and the Marshals confiscated everything.

Why would you have to go to the property to do that?  VPN isn't just for remote troubleshooting!!
