Yes, but we know how to sneak into that one ;)

Don't get excited, it's a joke

And don't forget your coupons.

Don't pay for Rhea, dude can party (but probably won't be there, sucks, I owe him a night of getting f--ked up)

I had a guy owe me money, one day I was so pissed off that I stopped by his house and turned up his system until I heard it from the street, probably made his cat piss all over the house.

Legal, not really, feel good, absolutely.

I don't know how a dead beat client could have a leg to stand on, no matter weather you hijack his system or not. The law is always up for interpretation, he didn't pay, the program is mine to shut down until he does.

Btw, I already sued the guy and he didn't even show up, now I have a judgement and need to pursue.

Why would you have to go to the property to do that?  VPN isn't just for remote troubleshooting!!

It's an att 2wire scraptrash gateway. Which, I imagine, has VPN reliability akin to onkyo hdmi switching.

An AMX programmer that I used to work with had a line in his contract that every client signed that stated that any programming files, graphics, etc remained his exclusive intellectual property until payment was received in full. Any use of said property by the client was on "loan" until it was fully paid for.

And yes, he did use similar tactics to the OP to get deadbeats to pay him, mostly successfully.

I'll admit, that I've done the same thing. I only admit it now because the client is in prison for 50 years for running a Ponzi scheme, and the Marshals confiscated everything.

Small world. Had this happen to a client as well. Was able to buy a lot of the equipment back from the auction.

You should get into commercial installation! After you've done this for eight or nine years you have enough contacts that you can often install where you've already installed, and perhaps buy equipment at a huge discount when places go out of business, only to reinstall it somewhere else. Commercials are always looking for a deal, and if you've got enough of a reputation for people to trust you providing them used equipment, the prices go down while the margin goes up!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Nice mac, sorta a built-in approach.

Are you guys really suggesting that this will connect the dots back to us? Gimme a break. Here's what I'll do if the dots do connect (and I promise to 'fess up). Of those who attend Cedia this year, all bar tabs will be paid by us - every night.

What about non-drinkers? Will you pay for hookers?
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

You would have to put cocaine on their arse if you wanted to lick that region.

Couldn't you have gone for the teat region in your example???

A few bottles of 151, and a lesser amount of Kahlua, will be needed at the IP gathering.

Plan ahead!

Fessing up, I once yanked a DTV dish right off the side of a clients house. While their 10 year old BRAT was watching his crap program.

After he threw a tantrum and cried to "mommy", I got paid.

I was at the last Cedia and I didn't see any of these "non-drinkers". I thought being in the CI business automatically necessitated alcohol.

UPDATE: It's been 24hrs and still no communication. I can picture them running up and down the stairs to change ch's (if they were smart enough to unhook the processor)

I finished the training on a large Total Control system and for some reason, the main Control Unit and HDMI extender was never paid for. It was signed by customer to be paid for upon final training. Customer didn't want to pay and literally threatened to fight me. I took the Extender and Main processor back to the shop with me. He couldn't do anything until he paid. Keep in mind, He said he was out of town while we finished the install and would pay when he got back and we did final training. The truth was, he was home the entire time enjoying the system.

He Finally paid and we installed the equipment back. People are crazy.

Couldn't you have a clause in your contract stating this scenario? If you prove you've made many attempts to follow up and they were disregarded then you "have the right" to shut the system down until payment is received.
