Added a new URC MX450 to and existing (already in house) ATT uverse box that was using a Proficient IR repeater (ATT box in cabinet below TV).
all worked fine with ATT remote, but when using the URC - the number press buttons worked erratically - press "1" and "11" would appear. number inputs lagged or would double.
when I use the URC directly to the ATT box (bypass the IR kit) it works fine.
is there a known IR repeater kit that works well with URC and ATT boxes ya'll use?

Open up the box and put the emitter inside. I believe you have to take the shell off the emitter. I had the same issues on a job until i put it inside. Worked perfectly afterwards.

thanks for the suggestion..
what happens when the box goes bad (it will) and the customer calls ATT (not you) to replace it - not realizing what you did? I'm certain ATT will have a problem with this and a $500 bill for a tampered box to go along with it. I'll do that with anything else in the mix, Customer does not own this equipment.
Id like to know what the actual problem is and if another repeater manufacturer performs better.

Did you try a different brand emitter?

Get the 450 software for software archiving and when you do so, the updated firmware and IR codesets that correct some of these issues MAY be updated.
The MX450 software will not let you do the programming but it allows you to backup / restore your current setup as well as to get firmware and IR code updates.

What goldenz said.... You can also just pop the translucent strip off the front and you don't have to take it completely apart.
BUT just so you know, for what it's worth, I recently had a client who switched to Uverse. There was a Speakercraft IR receiver in place that worked fine with her old cable box but not AT ALL with the Uverse box. This is just using OEM remote. Replaced the IR receiver with a Niles and they all lived happily ever after. The end.

I have had issues with several kinds of cable and sat boxes not working with IR repeaters. Change just the sensor to a Xantech, problem solved. I did this just last week with a Proficient IR kit.

Craig The last one I worked with was using Xantech emitters, and I was having the issues. I took a URC emitter apart and embedded it and it worked great afterwards.

The emitters have nothing to do with it (other than placement - which you chose to embed it). It is the receiver that is most important. Was it a Xantech receiver or another brand?

I said sensor. Should have said receiver. Did you try a Xantexh emitter embedded as well or just the URC?
I have heard of embedded emitters working more reliably with Bell Fibe boxes as well. I wonder if there is something to that? I too would have a problem disassembling a rental box. Still if it is the solution maybe there needs to an understanding with the customer that we come over to remove it before any provider service is done, otherwise they are on the hook for any fall out. It's our job to get this stuff working after all.

It's our job to get this stuff working after all. I only tried embedding the URC emitter since they come apart so easily. It worked perfectly so that's where it ended. I weighed my options, embed emitter and risk that client forgets and calls AT&T before me and gets charged vs. getting called every damn night when channels won't change properly. I chose option A :-)

I chose option A :-) Good call. Leaving it working right is always the best option. Angering the cable provider? NMFP. So I bet the Xantech emitter would have worked in the same application and that it was embedding it that solved the problem. Put that in my pocket for later. Craig
