It really should not matter what brand of LED you use, with two exceptions: dual LEDs and "visible" LEDs are two LEDs in series, so they need a higher driving voltage than a normal single LED. Those should only be used with the same brand of IR distribution equipment. It might not matter, but "might not" does NOT deliver working systems you can walk away from.

You were correct. A receiver is a sensor, an LED is not a sensor.

Sensor = receiver = eye
LED = bug = emitter = IR LED

The problem with "eye" is that a dedicated minority of us insist on calling both sensors and emitters "eyes." It always amuses me to read that and envision someone's own personal eyes in his body emitting light so he can see!
