I am trying to design a media center with a small challenge. The front of the room will consist of bay windows all the way across that will be blacked out. My film screen will be a drop down out of the ceiling. My problem is what I should use and how to position the center channel since I really don't have anything to mount it to.
Thanks

Drop it down from the ceiling behind the screen. Extend and perforate the black matte above the screen material. That way, when the screen goes up, the speaker disappears as well.

another idea that would apply if the bay window if the bay extends all the way to the floor with a window seat type feature like you commonly see. You can recess an inwall into the millwork or enclose a box apeaker behind grille cloth like you would in a high end armoire. Other options include raising it from the base of the window seat on an Auton lift.

If your bay is only the window itself extends from the interior wall, then you may consider the downward angled ceiling speakers.
I have heard the Speakercraft AIM and Sonance Ellipse in other companies installations and they sound pretty good for their prices. I recently finished a master bed install using Triad in-ceiling silver mini-monitors for tyhe front L,C,and R with inwall silver mini-monitors for the rears and a triad inwall sub with the rack amp. It worked very well in this case because I didn't have much extra drop on the screen because of sight lines while laying in the bed. The image and dialogue tracked like it was right on the screen.

Have you thought about this kind of a solution. These speakers work very well for projecting the sound to the listenening area

I used the big brothers to those in the previously mentioned install. I couldn't recommend them enough.

Triad is so far ahead of everyone else it's scary.

Thank you for the responses. I was hoping for a magical solution that would not involve an in-ceiling speaker, so I can deliver the best possible theater effect. I do think that the Triad's are a viable option however.

Its Obviously NOT an ideal situation for the room, so having " the best possible theater effect" is reletive.

ANyone who thinks the AIM speakers wouldnt work well and Provide a excellent theater effect hasnt used them.

The Triads are great! Here is another solution if you don't want to go with in ceiling speakers. I haven't tried it yet, so I don't know of the quality.

go for a custom built window seat. build in the front/center/right into the window seat. will also allow for other options like media storage or equipment storage or whatwever. My opinion

Oh, I almost forgot, I used a set of really slick motorized KEF in-ceilings for a similar application once that worked great. I think they have been discontinued now, plus that was before the Triads came out.

I have used the Boston Acoustics in-ceiling speakers with great success. Check them out:
