I am building a new house, and in my master bedroom I would like to hang a plasma on the wall, but hide all of my components in the closet.
The problem is, once the components are in the closet, I will not have line of sight, and thus not be able to use my Infrared remote. I have seen some Infrared repeaters that use rf signals, but I think I would prefer to run wires through the walls. Any suggestions?

You're smart. RF is cool, but it doesn't do everything! Cat5 phone wire or 20-3 wire will do for the repeater, just make sure that the IR receiver you purchase is "plasma friendly." These, however can be pricy. An possible alternative would be to use a ceiling IR receiver. Also be sure to run 6 coax, 1 or 2 Cat5's and a DVI cable from the plasma to the closet.

I don't know your remote type, but I've had my flagship rig in Key West running two years now on a ProntoPro TSU-6000 with the IR repeater and it works without a hitch...my two cents worth....

What plasma do you intend to use? New Pioneers have a seperate media receiver as do many others. These sets have an expencive cable that has a max leanth of 10 meters. Now if you use the pioneer and use pioneer gear in your closet you can link all the equipment through the SR link on the back of each piece. Then when you point the remote at the receiver on the plasma it will sent it into the closet for you. The other more common way to do it with any type of equipment is to buy Universal Remote MX800. It has an RF base that has 6 emitters and a built in blaster. They work great.

I like the ideas of these responses...THANKS! Let me ask a follow up question now.
My house is just getting framed now, and won't be done until the end of October or so... Do any of these systems allow me to run my own wire (Regular Coax, or RG-6, or just some type of like lamp or speaker wire) through the walls and then what ever system I purchase, can use that wiring as the communication vehicle? This way it would just save me from having to buy these repeaters right now, and I can then buy them after the house is built?

Check my first post for what to run (the only exception being special connections for Pioneer media boxes to plasma, for example, and then it's good to run what I said anyway PLUS that cable-- in case you ever have a different panel in the room. Just run all of these wires now!! Again, think a little bit about the brand of plasma you want now, just to see whether you will need to run a proprietary cable.
