I have a related question. If a remote button only sends out a code once after you hold it down for two seconds, what is the best way to get this code?

RonL, just learn the command. If you want a 2 second delay for the command in your Pronto/whatever, make the button a macro and insert a delay and then alias to the command.

Shoe,

In my case, the LG remote sends out one code on a normal press, and a different code on a two-second hold. Learning the first code does not help me.

RonL,

Start the learn process on the new remote, put your hand or object between the remotes, press and hold the button on the teacher, remove the blocking object, the remote will learn the held funcion. May need to try a couple times to get the timing right.

LG 3510A combo DVD player/HDTV STB.

The fast forward / rewind and chapter skip functions share the same button on the LG remote. Someone sent me a CCF, but they never bothered to program the fast forward and rewind functions.

All right, so the problem REALLY needs to be solved.
As long as we are reaching out (sometimes far out) to find a solution because it has to WORK, try this:

Buy a TS1000 on ebay. The method of making a command of that length is described in the FAQs, and the 1000 will do it very nicely. I have done it before with two second long commands. On a 1000. I have also done this on a 2000 and a Marantz 5200.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Any remote based on the "original" Pronto will be able to do that - TS-1000, TSU2000, TSU6000, RC5000, RC5000i, RC5200, RC9200, CHAD, RAV-2000, etc.

The original Pronto could string multiple IR codes together with essentially no space between each one, fooling the receiving device into thinking it was a continuous stream. The newer Pronto NG is incapable of processing IR that quickly (it was really slow to start and, although they've since sped it up, it's still not fast enough for this trick to work).

The problem is, the Pronto isn't exactly a replacement for the 590-10...
