Don't like yamaha myself..I prefer the Onkyo/Integra offerings.

IMHO, in the mid-range category, I would go this route

1-Onkyo/Integra
2-Marantz
3- TIE between Yamaha and Denon...YAMAHA sounds way better, and offers a ton of completely worthless features and DSP settings. Denon doesn't sound as good (until you get into the higher end with the Burr-Brown DACS) but offers FAR more friendly features and integratibility...

I have found the Yamaha's to be the hardest of our big three (can't get marantz :( ) to integrate into comples systems...

Did you run the AUto-calibration?

We installed our first 2400 a week or so ago and the system sounded REAL tinny until we ran the autocalibration. Tinny in the highs might show up also as too little bass. Maybe the thought was that the default would be acceptable if there was too much highs and too little bass, but not the other way around. Of course, they could have just left the darn thing default to flat, but it does not sound like they did.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Check your LFE settings. I find the sub response is better when connected to the LFE out rather than the Sub out "line level" if it has both outputs. I agree with Avdude...Integra is better than Yamaha, but I like the higher end Yamaha better than Marantz. I couldn't tell you why, I just do (probably because I'm more familiar with the yamaha).

Isn't there a setting for LFE output -10dB?
Check that it is set for -0dB.
