I have an AV9000 preamp, great unit, but have this issue...

6 analog channels are taken from a DVD-2900 and routed into the AV9000. The AV9000 has to be switched into a special mode (called 6 channel direct) to 'look at' these inputs and bypassing any internal DSP, for SACD.

My issue is...I cannot program the remote to intelligently know what the previous mode was. For example, if I was on any source and switched to SACD, I have a macro that will set the preamp to go to 6 channel direct mode. That works great, but, now if I want to switch to any other source, after SACD, I have to press the 6 channel direct button again to EXIT 6 channel direct mode. I cannot simply select another source on the preamp because it will stay in 6 channel direct mode. Actually, it won't even switch inputs when 6 channel direct mode is enabled.

I guess it's just a 'feature' of the AV9000. It's not a make or break deal, it just would be nice to have a totally automated system for the less experienced users of a home theater system that incorporates SACD and other direct analog inputs.

Anyone know of a PREAMP that DOSENT do this?

PS: I have tried all RC5x 16 1 xx modes from 0 to 15. None of them work (execpt for RC5x 16 1 3, that's the on/off code for 6 channel direct on the AV9000). If anyone has a discrete code for 6 channel direct mode off, I would pay money!

Looks like you already tried these(below) from your post. You could try to repeat the command etc. Something’s are just a matter of trial and error, and sometimes they just weren't included in the design.

What kind of remote are you using? With a touchscreen there are some work around possibilities but nothing absolute.

Let me clarify according to the excel sheet from Marantz. Please note these codes may or may not work depending on the receiver model. This spreadsheet is dated Nov. 20th, 2003. From what I gather it is referring to the new X400 series surround receivers as it list new IR codes (in red) for control of zone 2 from the front panel.

7.1 ch input Off

7.1 ch input On

I had this exact issue with a client who supplied his own Denon. I think it was a 3802.

The Denon's remote has a button for 6 channel input, one called mode, another called analog.

I found that if I issued a "6 channel input" command followed by a "mode" command, the receiver put itself into "Auto," no matter what mode it had been in before. Since he has ONE place where he wants to go into 6 channel, I use that macro as part of EVERY input choice. For his 6 channel input, I use that macro followed by "6 channel:"

6 channel
mode
6 channel

Sounds dumb, but the dumbth* really belongs to Denon.

The Marantz might have something like this, where a particular sequence will put you where you want to be.

*"Dumbth" is a brilliant book written by Steve Allen almost twenty years ago, talking about the totally stupid things people do because we have not learned to actually think.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

yeah, I've tried all the codes from RC5x 16 1 0 to RC5x 16 1 15 and nothing has turned 6 channel direct mode off.

I'm hoping to somehow do the same thing Ernie, but so far no luck. I'll keep trying all the commands and maybe come up with something.

Thanks for the replies.
