So i was looking over my accounts last night and noticed some strange charges. I called my banks up to dispute it and of course the were fraudulent. Heres the kicker, My bank cards has the pay-wave system built in and they suspect that ive been another victim of the new credit card theft scams out. My other cards with the system built in had charges on them too.

I have NEVER been a fan of these stupid pay wave things and always thought they weren't a good idea. well, now my fear has been personally lived. I was in the city last week in a crowd of people and some guy "accidentally" bumped into me with what i thought was his Ipad case until i saw this video today. It actually looked IDENTICAL to whats in this video. Of course I didnt think anything of it until now.

Ive just ordered a bunch of these ([Link: idstronghold.com] protect my other stupid RFID cards. My personal bank is sending me one without the chip but the other cards refuse to send Them without the chips. Ive had those number's cancelled too and now i have to go through re entering my information into the auto bill pays,Ugh.

Be-Careful out there! you never think it will happen to you. I actually saw this on Pitchmen a year or so ago and thought about ordering them and never did. Ohh well, live and learn.

This is very much like HDMI. Somebody thinks the technology is a solution for a problem we haven't had, and now we have to arm ourselves to, in the case of HDMI, just make it work, or in the case of these chips, not get ripped off by remote.

Last year we didn't need aluminum (or whatever) lined wallets to keep our money in our card accounts. How dumb it is that we have to have special "aluminum-hat" wallets just to be where we were last year.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I never knew that you could EASILY (relatively) steal codes from card access keyfobs and cards. All you need is something that excites the frequency of the card, be in relatively close proximity, and have another device to read the data that the keyfob is throwing off. I thought it would be a bit more complicated than that.

Plus you can order a specific card number. How stupid is that? I find out the card number you have and order that same card number. BAM! Now I'm you.

I learned all this stuff when we were being schooled on "smart" card access credentials... which don't work that way...

Sorry you got stung with this. I once had a chinese restaurant charge my card $954 for a delivery order. Took a LONG time to get that one worked out...

About 6 months ago, my wife asked if I wanted to take the kids out for dinner rather than her cooking.  I said sure, make sure there is money in the personal account.

She said, "What is OmanAir, is that one of your suppliers"?
I said, "Oman is a country, Oman Air is an Airline".
She said, "Well, somebody used our back account to buy a $1534.00 plane ticket"

Luckily enough, my bank took care of it within a week.  My bank said it was used as a Visa, so it wasn't the banks responsibility.  That the way it worked is, Visa would contact the Airport, have them check their information.  If the Airport couldn't prove that I was the one standing at the counter in Oman buying an Airline ticket, that Visa would refuse to pay the Airline, and they would send my money back.

And sure enough, that's how it worked out.

A week? That's lucky? Someone stole your cash. They can give it back in 5 minutes...

I'm with ya...I was just happy to get it back at all... The process of putting the money into the bank takes a few keystrokes.  The investigation to see if I was actually in Oman going willy nilly on plane tickets takes 6 days 23 hrs and 58 minutes.

RFID bankcards are possible the worst idea of all time in the credit/debit industry. Who thought broadcasting Credit card numbers unencrypted was a good idea? I'd love to meet him/her....

agree, but that is what you get when someone says "convenience" and no one thinks of the implications.

Sad thing was, you were still hungry again in an hour.
