I am more then tired of having to go out and make service calls for emitters coming off the front of some units. Scientific Atlanta boxes with the curved front doesn't help either. Its great the some of the companies have the IR input on the back but that will never happen with most of the companies Who knows the best trick of keeping them on without breaking out a hot glue gun.

if you dont want to do a hot glue gun (which i strongly advise!) The emitter covers help to keep them on the front of the unit. They are pretty fugly though IMO

If it's equiment I'm providing I usually crack it open and install the emitter inside... I do this for TVs too.

You can just run the wire out the bottom or back, or if you want to get a little fancier, you can drill a hole in the back and install one of these to keep things cleaner: [Link: easyadapters.com]

For cable boxes and other equipment that I don't supply, I'll usually stick an IR emitter cover on.  These hold the emitter on very well, but also block IR which can be a good or bad thing (factory remote won't work any more).

Several other companies make these too... Speakercraft & SnapAV come to mind.  For some equipment you have to trim the plastic for a good fit, but easy to do.

Not to be a dickhead but why are you too lazy to buy a $15 part and spend two minutes applying the glue? You'll never have to worry about the emitters falling off. Use the provided adhesive until you test everything and when it works then use the glue. We glue everything and not once had an emitter fall off.

Xantech seems to be working on a better adheasive.

I've not tried it yet, but the description mentions "curved" front panels...
If the above link does not work. I found it under IR accessories, high performance emitter tape.

i have just started cracking cases open and really like doing it, it gives a fun little project (for me at least) and ensures the cleaning lady wont knock them off.

But i didnt mention it because he doesnt even want to pull out a glue gun :)

We use clear silicon. Holds well, easy to remove if necessary.

I love these. I break the plastic cover off of the emitter and thread it thru a vent hole in the back of the component. I hot glue it to the IR receiver (inside of the component) and mount the yellow block to the back of the component.

Then i use the included 1/8" patch cable in a single rack scenario or i buy 15' mono patch cables in a multi rack scenario. No more emitters being knocked off. No more emitters being cut by the RSH shelves. No more scraggly fragile emitter wires draped thru the back of the racks.

Next project im going to do a video or series of photos to show exactly how sexy the end result is. No one will ever stick an emitter on the face of a component again.

39, those look awesome, would love to see some pics of what you are describing. I didn't know xantech made those in that particular model with the modular plugs and the adhesive wire feeds.

We should not fail to mention the correct answer just because the guy might be too lazy to do it. The correct answer helps everybody else, and this guy will know what to do when he decides to correctly cope with the situation.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Been using 3M mastic tape for years.  You can pick it up at any Home Depot or Lowes.  You can cut it to any size you need & almost never falls off.

I never glue the flashers on because if you need to pull them off to service the equipment it looks like crap sometimes when you put them back on.  Plus if the cable box is defective & needs to be swapped out the cable guy won't tear up the flasher.

Not a fan of installing the flashers inside a device either.  Tried it for awhile a few years back.  It requires more labor & can be quite a pain in the -ss depending on the device.  And same as above the cable guy will tear up the flasher resulting in a service call.  In my "opinion" this is a bad idea & usually causes more problems that it solves.
