I recently purchased a pronto tsu3000 remote. It seems to be a great product, but I am leaning toward returning it. I have windows xp, and I cannot upload or download anything to the remote. I was able once to upgrade the firmware, and that's it. I tried it on windows 98se, and still nothing. I have emailed philips 4 times, with no responses. I really don't feel comfortable spending money on a product that is not supported. I would like to purchase a remote very similar to the pronto 3000 that actually works and is supported. Can someone recommend to me a remote? Thanks.

pal,

What kind of problems are you having? Is it a "remote not connected" or something else? If you have not checked for the latest software version, you might want to do so at www.pronto.philips.com

I've had that same problem, and removing and re-installing the software corrected it.

It is a shame that Philips does not support the Pronto line as they should. I have also sent emails on different topics with no replies.

Don't give up yet, I have XP and program several Prontos (2000,3000,6000). I have had uninstall and reinstall the software before. It can be a pain, but so can any software program until you get used to it.

Make sure the Pronto is lit up and go to the control panel> system> hardware> device manager> ports and right click on the com port. You have an option to scan for hardware changes, try that while the Pronto is lit up. Also the default setting for the Pronto is to stay on for only a few seconds, increase that to a minute or so while you are programming.

Once you get it down it is pretty cool.

Good luck,

Roddy

Thanks for the responses, and I'll try your suggestions. I am very computer literate. I'm a geek when it comes to computers, so when I was not able to get this thing working, I thought I would be in for problems all the time in the future. I always get the error "upload failed" or "download failed" or sometimes "batteries too low" even when I put in brand new duracells. I tried pack and go, and all I get is error 0041: substring gcfi missing, or something like that. I just don't know what the problem is. Is there another remote out there like the pronto that is less problematic?

Roddy,

In my hardware setup, there appears human interface device with 2 things under it. hid control, or something like that, and hid device, I can't remember exactly what they say. I am connecting through a usb port, not a com port. Why did you say to right click on the com port? Am I supposed to be connecting through a com port?

When you say lit up, do you mean with backlighting, or just on so that you can see the icons?

Also, make sure the remote is on(set the lcd timeout to the maximum) and that you have brand spankin new alkalines in the remote when you try to upload and download.
Also, make sure you have windows updates Service Pack 1 for XP... I THINK there was an update for USB 1.1 in that. Cant hurt anyways.
Also, remember that it is like any other pain in the butt USB device. Which means it can randomly disappear on you and will on work again after you reboot(without it plugged in) and then plug it back in... and sometimes even reboot again.

I will put in brand new duracells and try all of your suggestions tonight. Does the pronto have to be on a certain screen when trying to download? I feel like I have to be nice to this thing or it won't do what I want! For the money, it should be nice to me!

Well, I tried everything everyone said, to no avail. I finally got in touch with Philips customer service. After about 20 minutes of tinkering, the rep advised me I had a faulty unit. Bad hardware. When I tried to pack and go, I got error 0041: missing gcfi substring, or something like that. I will return the untit tomorrow, and I already have another tsu3000 being overnighted to me. I will let you know what happens. Thanks for all your help so far.

Sorry, I meant the USB controller (to many 6000's lately). After you right click you should see an option to scan for hardware.

Got the new tsu3000 today. Same issues. I am sending it back tomorrow. I will never buy another philips remote again. Can someone recommend a comparable remote? I really feel bad now because I had such high hopes for the 3000. I really liked it, but too many issues. Thanks.

Are you sure it's the remote and not your computer? Many people (including myself) are using the TSU3000 with no problems on WinXP. Unfortunately, everything is so complicated today it's hard to pin something down to just one specific problem. Sounds like you had pretty good customer service (they overnighted a replacement to you). Don't be so hasty in blaming Philips unless you are sure that they are the problem.

Unfortunately people frequently blame the "new" equipment before their own. If it's such a bad product, then why wouldn't we all have the same issues as you? Make sure your XP is up to date, and it should work fine. Just a note...The fact that "Pack and go" is giving an error has nothing to do with the remote. That is a software issue.

Well,

I wish I could tell you I had the answer. I was on the phone with Philips for a long time, and they determined that the error I received from the pack and go was a hardware issue with the remote. My computer is updated, and everything else I own, including my digital camera, ipod, scanner, etc all work flawlessly. It is very hard to pin down the actual problem.

My computer recognizes the pronto 3000 as an hid. Is there supposed to be a specific driver for the 3000, or is it just a hid? I was able to download the newest firmware, but whenever I try to upload or download any pcf's, I get an error, no matter what. Resets, reboots, reloads of software and reflashing don't help. It's always the same thing. Maybe it is just me, but from reading this forum it seems like there are a lot of people who are having issues.

I GOT IT!!! I bought a new unit today in NYC. I put it on a friend's computer, and it worked! Now I have to take it home to try it on mine. If it works, the other units were faulty, if not, my computer doesn't like the pronto for some reason. Either way, it works! Thank you for all your help and suggestions!
