I have not had any experience with the DSS/Tivo systems for direct tv. I am starting a CCF for a TSU6000 Pronto and dont have a master remote for the DSS/Tivo yet. The client is deciding if he should throw out the VCR, he wants to record and I told him this was the simple way to do it and still be simple to use.

Same ole story here, Client had a big box store do the theater/music install in a new home, they screwed it up and then closed that division. Now he needs a control system but will not shellout for the Crestron. I have him nodding yes to the 6000 Pronto, I want to build a basic CCF that will give guests and gradma full use of the media center (TV = monitor,5.1 Receiver, DSS/tivo). Can I basicly just use a DSS CCF and add a "record and play" page? I really want to keep it very simple as he is a techniphobe.

But I have no remote to study or a demo piece to play with.

The Hughes HDVR2 does not use the standard Hughes codes. When I did an MX-700, I had to learn them all. Make sure you make him pay for his short-sightedness of using the big retailer.

So I have to wait until he buys this (im not a dealer of that)and use the remote to learn codes, no problem I guess. Question is, if I build the CCF what buttons will I need for BASIC tivo functions, I dont care about to many options, he can get the stock remote to do set up features etc... What is a good unit/model to copy layout from? I want to build a basic system without alot of useless buttons.

When using the Hughed Tivo/DSS unit you will need the cursor to navigate menus to get to LiveTV to view programming without recording and replay functions. Other than that you will need the specific buttons to operate the special features of Tivo. I've only done this on a Crestron and the pages become busier than I care for. The unit itself seems to be more dependable than the old Sony DSS/Tivo oiece.

Yes but what buttons would that be.
