Here is the question, in my current system at home I am considering changing the 3 front speakers. Not because I am unhappy with the performance, but because of the finish on them. I have 3 high gloss black NHT speakers in the front and 2 White in the back. I have been eyeballing speakers for about a month and cannot settle on anything. So I come to you for your advice. The room is small, 15X14'. 9'ceilings, Hardwood floors, It's my living room not a theater. This is my equipment: Integra 7.3 receiver, Denon DVD 5000, Sony 6 disc changer, TIVO, NHT SW2P subwoofer, I need to find a speaker that I'll be happy with for years, wood finish (house built in 1904) preferably light wood. Floorstanding preferable. The NHT fronts look to "pimp" for the house. The rears and the sub are hidden from view. I am not going to tell what I've looked at because I don't want to influence any answers. I need to stay under $1000.00. Thanks everybody.

Check out Definitive Technology StudioMonitor 350 for left and right with a C/L/R 2002 center. All available in Golden Cherry finish at no extra cost. SM 350's play very deep for small bookshelf speakers. These are our favorite compact fronts and should sell for just about $1000. We are a Definitive and Integra dealer in Mich and they sound great together. Good luck!

I couldn't agree more about the DefTech speakers. I've been using/selling/admiring these speakers for over 10yrs and have never heard a complaint yet!!!!! I have a pair of BP2000 that I've had for many years, and they are like Timex watches (take a lickn and keep on KICKN). HEHE, sorry a little AV humor. Good luck!

Hmm, you may want to look at RBH, they have some wood choices that may match your decor. And they sound good as well. Not just another black box.

I agree with Obiwan. The RBH models are very resonably priced and you can get them in 29 different finishes (last I checked).
I really like the sound of the Snell speakers too.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

Check out Totem Accoustics.

I think they make the most beautiful speakers on the market. And, they sound great.

The Dreamcatchers might be just within your price requirements.
i wanna go home now

obiwan is correct about RBH they are nice speakers, we don't carry them where i work now but my previous company was an RBH dealer way way way back when nobody knew them, anyway they do sound good, I have @ home a pair of Mordaunt-Short towers with an Integra DTR-6.4 and they sound great, they do make a bookshelf speaker in light cherry. Ditto on the Totem's. Also give Monitor S6 towers a listen. Fit well in your budget. Kinda 'bassy' for my tastes but selling really well.

I like the PSB Image 4T in Cherry. It looks more like oak. With the PSB Image 8C center (only in black ash). The sound and look under $1,000.00.

How about Quad 21L's? ([Link: quad-hifi.co.uk])

I've got them in my system and they are fantastic.

They have a real wood veneer finish with deep piano lacquer and they sound great in a small room too. I paid £590 for the floorstanders and £300 for the centre.

Only downder might be that you can't get them in the States.

M&K makes some nice stuff (lcr 850's) in various wood colors with matching floor stands. I have sold them with a high W.A.F. (wife acceptance factor) for older homes. They need a sub but sound great. I don't disagree with any other recomendations made here either you have lots of good options.

Yes I'm going to keep them for a zone 2. I looked into the Totem's I cant get the fronts for $1000.00 I can get the L&R but not the center. But they do look like an awfully nice speaker. I called them and asked about the arrow, which is there entry level speaker. I've never heard 'em but THEY SURE ARE PURTY!

Just gonna toss this out there.

How about some add-on panels, similar to the method that is being used on the Atlantic Tech 6200/8200 series?

I'd think that any GOOD custom cabinet company could fabricate these for you to add to the existing NHT's.

And then your fronts and rears would still be a sonic matched set.

Food for thought?
