edit: I see that the 791's are the new inceiling speaker posted below...and my previous statement is of no value.

(701's as far as by comparison to bose speakers are pretty good (30" tower with front and rear array's and a powered acoustimass 6" module built in if I recall)...never heard of a 791 though.

The 701's retailed around 1200/pr in 2000 I think...disclaimer, I'm only going off memory. google on your own to verify.)

Good, Better, Best?

Good equal to a 2" speaker in a Sound Design 8 track player circa 1975?

A superb design called hide the ugly, passive, non functional sub, inside the tower....:)

They look like any other single-stereo in-ceiling speaker, but with a much higher price tag.

Actually, I have heard these, and I was by no means ever a Bose fan, I think they sound incredible - I was as surprised as anyone. I worked retail for years and sold Bose only when customers were strictly looking for it. But I would highly recommend these speakers to anyone looking for a great whole house speaker, they fill a room up incredibly well.

I have seen a little weakness on high high volume levels ( a little distortion) but the speakers have a particular way to be set up, when set up in proper alignment with it's paired speaker, I would say it's hard to beat, it does have a bit of a forward sound, but it works out, and fills in the gap where other speakers are far too thin.. This speaker kicks, and again I'm very impressed.

If these have a paired speaker, can they somehow also be single-point stereo speakers? Hmmmmmm.

LazyB, please contribute more. Despite your careful balance of good and bad about these Boseys, it's hard to take an opinion expressed in a person's first post very seriously when it's about a brand whose actual audio value is so questionable. Especially after that paired speaker bit.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Im going to Bose training tomorrow morning on these....I suppose I will hear them. And guys lets keep our little Bose smirks for behind closed doors ;)

ive taken on the line because in my area we have alot of "Bose" Customers. I personally love selling and installing the line and the markup is quite well. Built-Invisible is a slam dunk btw. Their support is quite well for us CI's and ive noticed that my customers more and more are wanting to go with a brand they know. My customers love their systems and if they are happy my bank and I are happy.

EBG, just because a speaker has 2 tweeters doesnt make it a Single Stereo Speaker. They obviously designed it to have a better spread of sound. i remember some NHT in ceilings that had 3 tweeters to distribute the high frequencies evenly. they are sold in pairs. they are not dual voice coil.

Impractically and outrageously overpriced for in ceiling speakers. The Klipsche Line of ceiling speakers, heck even the Yamaha speakers blow these away.
Bose is consistent in that they always manage that low-mid hump of perceived bass response.
Gotta hand it to them. They made a name for themselves.

They've only been waiting 7 years for your response! I hope now they can finally make a decision.
