I just got a used Mac amp from a customer. Just wanted to get rid of it. I'd like to find a used price guide to correctly value it.
Any ideas???

What amp is it and what kind of condition? I have a few classic Mcintosh pieces that could use some company.

Although not necessarily "reality", ebay is a great place to find out what people will pay for things. Do a search for that model, current and completed auctions. In particular, classic pieces seem to attract people with far more money than brains....

I'm feeling slightly offended by this comment........... On 08/16/03 22:02, Tom Ciaramitaro said...

The Old McIntosh gear IMHO sounds significantly better that the current stuff they are turning out, and the aestetics are better than almost anything thats currently available.... Even Orion values McIntosh classic gear significantly higher than anything else of its era...... Next time you See an Orion Blue Book, Take a peek at the 1950-70 Mac Stuff..... Are you saying that the people who publish the industry reference for used gear are not too bright?

Are you saying that the people who publish the industry reference for used gear are not too bright? Sorry Impaqt, but your logic is wanting here. Orion is simply reporting on the market value of used audio products. When they give an old McIntosh product a high value, they are not "endorsing" it any more than they are "critisizing" a product they give a low value to. Tom never said that vintage McIntosh equipment wasn't valuable, he simply expressed his opinion about buyers of it. Therefore, the fact that Orion gives vintage McIntosh equipment a premium value DOES NOT PROVE OR DISPROVE Tom's comments, NOR do his comments in any way lead to the conclusion that he doesn't think the publishers of the Orion Blue Book "aren't too bright".

As far as his comment, I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with it one way or the other. I have no idea whether people that collect vintage audiuo equipment "have more money than brains". I do know that most (NOT all) of the 16-26 year old guys I dealt with when I sold car stereo 15 years ago DID have more money than brains, and they didn't have much money either :-).

Impaqt, You didn't really get the gist of what I was saying. Q sorta hit it on the head when he said I was making more of a reference to the buyers of the equipment.
I've bought the Blue Book every year for the last 20+ so I know it well. You know that many of their numbers are randomly generated by some computer but the better gear is more real world based.
BTW, old Mac, Marantz, Fisher, etc... it frequently sells above blue book on ebay. If I get one as a trade in, I don't usually consider it for my used department showroom but immediately think 'ebay'.
Only my opinion, Impaqt, so don't take it too much to heart.

Yes, I do own classic mac gear, and I guess, depending on who you talk to, I may have more money than brains, but that might not be saying much... 8-)

But, can you afford to change your mind? LMAO...I guess I can. Just wish I could afford that new TV I wanted. But I think I have to be that responsible adult and put the money in savings for a damn house!
