Hi. Anyone know of a vcr/dvd combo unit sporting a single composite video output, that also utilizes separate IR codes for vcr transport that are different from dvd transport? This is for use in an academic installation, utilizing Extron's MediaLink control system.Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

hmmmm..... You want to use a $199 failure combo unit on an Extron system in a acedemic installation.. That sounds like a forumla for disaster to me.

To answer your question, no, I dont know of any that use discrete command sets. I deal with the Zenith, Sonys, and JVC's.

Impaqt: I realize the incongruity, however with the MediaLink's inherent operational limitations, and the system I need to implement, the combo solution is apparent. Actually, what I need is a control system slightly more flexible than the MediaLink, but not quite as involved as a Crestron MP2/ MMS. Ideally,I've got to simultaneously switch av AV switcher and a VGA switcher, and change modes in a plasma display, from a single button push. Any alternate suggestions? Reply to [email protected] if desirable. Thanks

I'm not familair with Extrons MediaLink system, but your describing a pretty basic Macro. I see no diference between having one box or 2 if the macro is set up properly.

What is your user interface? PC based? Touchpanel? IR Remote?

the jvc combo uses 2 different sets of commands for everything except on/off
We can do it my way, or we can do it my way while I yell. The choice is yours.

Hmmm.. I just doublechecked my 25U on the floor, and it does indeed use the same transport commands for DVD and VCR..... THe Indicator lights on the front of the unit dictate what is currently being controlled. You can verify this by putting a Tape and/or DVD in the unit. Shoot the "VCR" button so the units VCR light comes on, then move the remote away and press the DVD button on the remote. press play, and the VCR starts to play.

Maybe JVC has other units that are independant..... But the 25U is not.

So every transport code would have to be a macro preceded by either a DVD button press or VCR button press to ensure that the right side would work...

I did a Hitachi that DVD play then power gave me a trusty power off, but not on the VCR side. They could have...but they are not made for us after all.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.
