2. I hate the look of the drop ceilings, are there any alternatives ?

Mike,

Acoustic Innovations manufactures made-to-order ceilings that are designed for each specific space. It will be designed so the seams (which are a necessary evil) are minimized and laid out symmetrically.

Additionally, the “stars” will twinkle and are dimmable.

Mike,
If your looking for more info on the iSky panels, the ST. John group is a participating manufacturer in the MZ of Integration Pros.

the isky has a dealer demo kit. It's a pizza box sized panel and power supply with the uray lighting. I think it's around $100 or so. I have a demo kit on loaner, and i'll probably buy the kit. Pretty cool product.

I sent the link to isky to a friend/client who's having a major company do his screening room, and he sent me the URL for another company: http://www.numinus.com/
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Ernie,
As Moe said above, John from StJohn Group (iSky) is a regular member in the Manufacturers Zone at IntPros. And Lisa from Numinus joined recently as well.

You should log in and check it out.

I remember you mentioned frustration with certain portions of the layout, the size of the text/links, and the avatars.

I would be happy to walk you through the setup and adjustments to make the site more suited to your display configuration and your own preferences.

I sent my info to your AOL email in your profile (check your spam filter!)

Hi Guys! John Caldwell from StJohn Group here.

FYI -- Our iSky Panel, model 1200 "Pizza Box" demonstration piece is $85.
It is 12 x 12" sample panel literally in a pizza box, that reflects the build quality and star density of our 24x 24 and 48 x 48" pre-fab panels. It shows off the optional uRay LED lighting system we offer as well. The uRay for Pizza box is blue (our most popular), but we also offer cool white, red and amber. The Pizza box has an onboard 9 volt battery supply for use in the field with a client, designer, builder etc. Also can be switched to the one amp wall wart transformer for brighter operation.

We offer 24 x 24 x 2" thick, drop-in/grid ceiling panels in standard white and black fabrics. With and without stars. We also make 24x24", 30x30" and 48x 48", standard sized panels for cloud and surface mount applications. With and without star versions. Just introduced this week are radiused and triangle panels with stars for creating a wider variety of ceiling shapes. Standard fabric finish is midnight blue Anchorage AT fabric. Onyx black is also available. We've also just introduce cost effective dimming of the uRay LED lighting strips.

Custom bespoke panels and projects are never a problem.

The stars in our panels don't twinkle via a spinning wheel in front of an illuminator's bulb. Rather they glimmer like real stars do, at completely random intervals and amplitude. This is done via a propriatary and patented, minature low voltage LED light engine embedded in each panel that drives short runs of fiber with each panel. The panels daisy chain via quick connectors, and up to 50 panels can be driven off of a 3 amp wall wart via 18 ga. wire. The stars never fade or turn yellow and the LED star engines will last for decades. The panels are easily cut in field via an optional installation kit, for things like down lights, smoke alarms, heating vents or sprinkler heads.

Please contact me off-line to learn more about our considerable features and advantages to tradtional old-school, star field ceilings.

We own the night.

woah, dude, public forum!

we don't discuss dealer price here- we do that at IP, where the AVS types can't see....

(I got severely tongue lashed once for mentioning dealer cost on an item- Best Buy's dealer cost, even before the BB Direct thing)
We can do it my way, or we can do it my way while I yell. The choice is yours.

Just setting the record straight. The Fish said it was $100. And that was incorrect.
I will be mindful of the rules.
Respectfully,
John

John, it is not as much a rule as a general practice. Making wholesale cost public is not always a good thing for a dealer.

StarCeiling123, LLC - www.starceiling123.com has a lot of helpful information on this topic. They provide numerous installation ideas as well as all the necessary products (illuminators, fiber, kits, shooting stars, etc.) to get the job done. They have extremely low prices and made the whole process very easy for me. Good luck...

Thanks for the posts. I purchased supplies for my project from StarCeiling123.com as well and finished last weekend. It turned out great and I really had no idea what I was doing but they (StarCeiling123) were extremely helpful in getting me started. I saved a lot of money by creating my own fiber optic star panel. I was able to incorporate a shooting star as well. Thanks for all the help.
