Can anyone tell me why I have xantech emitters and the dinky link flashing when no buttons have been pressed on remote. Install is 6 months old and never had a problem.

Someone changed the the light bulb on the end table to a compact florescent bulb.

nope, no florescents. While I'm on the subject of ir. I have a xantech ir system with a niles recessed eye in a knockout of a inwall speaker. Works like crap when grill is on speaker. Any ideas?

You need to tell more about the install...TV? Plasma?
any other IR equip. in the system?

Loose the niles, try a xantach sensor.

We have had issues with Linn and Living Control systems that are affected by the sun. You got any windows with the sun shining through. The sun is one hell of an IR radiator

Four things:

1.) If your IR setup had worked for months and now all of a sudden your sensor is flashing erratically, have it checked out by your tech.

2.) Check the battery level of your remote. The remote may not be sending a strong enough signal.

3.) Your sensor is behind a speaker grill. Tear a chunk of the foam backing off the grill in front of where the sensor is. That may help.

4.) Spillage may be on the right track. If you have windows in your theater you may have sunlight problems. The sun is moving in a different path now then six months ago.

There are no windows in theater.
Would lutron RadioRa effect it in anyway.
Or maybe one of the components feeding back through it.

As Ruddy2 sort of suggests, you need to look for something different between then and now. The blinking IR indicates that something is triggering the circuitry of the IR pickup. Only IR going into the IR sensor module itself is supposed to turn on the LEDs, but RF from an alarm system, a phone system, dimmers, even electrical motors can trigger the circuitry.

Can you make it happen? Is there a time of day when they do not blink, or they blink more?

Consider also that if all control signals go through properly, maybe the "solution" is to cover the talkback LED with black tape so you cannot see it flash, and close the doors on the components so you cannot see them flash (assuming you have visible and IR LEDs).

Lastly, Niles and Xantech do not guarantee that their stuff is cross-compatible. To put it so simply that it might be incorrect but gets the idea across, Niles is high impedance while Xantech is low impedance. Or the other way around...but it could be a fluke that they work together at all.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Here is a few things I would tell my installers to check into and identify if they came to me with this issue:

1) Does it do it when the lights are set to a all off scene? If it stops it is possible that a type of bulb being used in the dimmer system is reacting to the method that Lutron dims (Triac's). If so, replace bulb(s).
2) Does it stop when the hard-switch at the bottom of your RadioRA Dimmers are slid to the totally off position (and the RadioRA repeater is unplugged)? If the answer is yes to this, but not to 1) then it could be interference with the transmission of the Lutron RadioRA dimmers. Try a AC power filter on the IR system power supply to correct or move the RadioRA repeater location.
3) Have you put your finger on the Dinky-Link's IR Receiver, and if so --- does the interference stop? If it did not, replace the Dinky-Link or the Connecting Block's power supply to correct the problem.
4) If you did 3 and it did stop the interference, you can use a solid blanket or something else to narrow the direction of the interference and search for the IR interfering device. You most likely have something else emitting IR in the room (you may be surprised what it is, motion detectors or other intrusion detection could be the culprit).

All of these troubleshooting techniques are worth trying, but may or may not help you find your solution.

Try removing any IR receivers (if you are using more then one), if still a problem remove 1 emitter at a time. If you get down to 1 receiver, and 1 emitter I would try a new supply,( preferred is a regulated supply)as early Xantech supplies were unregulated. FYI- I have had problems with blink-ir emitters as you are using in the past which were solved with power supplies. Alao we have found in the past that blink-ir emitters greatly reduced range. Are the emitters single or dual? If they are dual it is possible one has failed, but you would know this because 2 components would not respond. In reference to RadioRA interference, I am not sure, but Lutron and Crestron both acknowledge an interference problem with Crestron wireless panels via. gateway. Do not remember if they were 1 way, 2 way, or both. Bet of luck but realize your best test will always be 1 receiver, 1 SINGLE emitter, and a power supply, then add 1 emitter at a time, then if no problem exist continue to add extra receivers.
