We install multi-zone/source systems.
We currently use Tuners, CDs, and digital cable as our music sources.
The problem that we run into is the cable box output is much lower than the tuner and CD. I am looking for a device that allows me to gain up the rca outputs of the cable box. It needs to be a single input/output device and relativly cheap.

I did use a phoenix gold device for car audio and it worked, but I had to use a 12volt adapter. I'm looking for a home audio piece.

Thanks
Jason Walter

I'm looking for one too, as long as you add cheap in there. We've been using the Radio Design Labs unit, but my cost ends up being close to $200. Still looking for something with less cost....

You could also consider using electronics with internal source level trim functions, such as the B&K Components products.

Believe it or not, try the RCA SA-155 from Radio Shack.

It has always worked well for us, and even though the outputs are rated for speaker level, they have RCA connections.

About $60.00

I've used the Radio Shack piece also, it does a good job, not the best audio quality but plenty good for dist. audio.

I used the RDL unit and was not very happy with the range. I'll try the Radio shack device...Hope the label peels off.

Bury the piece in the equipment rack.

Also worth considering is a product used in car audio a lot.

"Turbo 1" Variable Line Driver.

Pacific Accessory Corp. in California makes it. Most car shops probably can easily find it for you if you don't wish to hunt.

Output gain is adjustable from between 0 to +8 dB.. Add a small 12 volt wall wart to power it and you are done and can adjust your cable box levels to perfect match the CD levels.

We have had excellent results to source level differences with the Audiocontrol BLD-10. Feed the Cable box into the input section, you will need to make up a bare wire to RCA cable from the output section. Adjust the pots to match the level of your other sources. you can also reverse the procedure to pad down sources that are too loud with a BLR-10 model.

I saw a preamp volume control(stereo rca in and out) in a supply catalog today and thought about using it to lower the louder sources to match sat and cable box. At $10 each you could use serveral and still not have much in it.

Try the Audioplex Little Amp C
Order it with RCA jacks, Not 1/4 inch
Works great, sounds clean and has more than enough gain!

Okay, so this is a really dumb question, but you DID turn the volume on the cable box up with its volume control, right?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
