Come on phellas please keep it just to your choice of the two companies. We can talk problems after we decide which is the best service.

I've used Dish for several years and have never used DirectTV but since my question "Should I junp to DirectTV" prompted Vinnie Bag to open this thread, let me add my recent experience.

Tuesday evening I tried many times to get through to DirectTV to ask questions about their TIVO units but never got through. I got through to Dish on the first call. I purchased their new PVR501 (40gb drive)Tuesday evening for a special price of $199 (normally $349) and DishNet technitions installed it Thursday morning at no charge.

The Dish PVR is their own and there is no monthly charge as is with any of the DirectTV TIVO units.

I'm happy.

jdholden, you are obviously not a custom Installer or you wouldn't have the DishNet technicians install the PVR501.I just wanted to find out if I was correct in assuming that the majority of Installers use DirecTV. And it is spelled VinnyBag.

Dish hands down. My father in law has Direct and I've had Dish just as long. No question. He calls me to record his shows.

I do both Dish and DirecTV. Direct has the advantage of only 1 dish for HD, vs. 2for Dish. Dish's UHF remotes have more range, I let my customer decide which is best for them.

Go Dish! No DorkyTV for me.

THON, the Merger has been called off. Thank GOD. That's all we need...Another $15mo rate hike and another 1-2min/hr of commercials.

John P, Are you speaking of discrete ON and OFF? I never turn them off. Anyone else?
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

ever try to get parts for Dish Network systems?

go Direct! Hell, you can buy DTV parts at Wal Mart if necessary... Dish Network, you have to call them for their proprietary crap.
We can do it my way, or we can do it my way while I yell. The choice is yours.

Are you guys DirecTV dealers? If so, are you happy with their compensation program?
How hard can this be?

The compensation from Dish and DirecTV might be better discussed at the PSI website, once it is secure.
