This question came up in a similar thread, lets get everybody's opinion. Please just write one or the other.
Please only leave your opinion if you work in the custom installation business. Trying to gather info. Please just state the company name, we can discuss downfalls in the next thread when we decide which is more popular.

DirecTV

I use to think Directv was the best thing going, but after they dumped all of their low volume dealers i.e. custom installation companies in favor of high volume (high subsription sign-up) like blockbuster, I took a closer look at Dish. Fact is they have more high def programming, ethnic programming, and less signal compression. The only thing Directv has over Dish is NFL Sunday Ticket, and that will change next year when the Directv - NFL sweetheart deal expires.
It's such a fine line between stupid, and clever.

I'll say one thing about dish, from an integrators point of view, they are not as easy to automate as some of the Directv receivers are.

There isn't a Dish receiver out there that has discrete codes, and if you've ever programmed a remote control for one-touch operation, you know what I mean.

Directv receivers, specifically RCA (what we use), is much more program friendly. Having discretes for just about everthing you would need.

Just my opinion,

JJP

I have worked for two different companies. One dealt dish and the other direct. Aside of the nfl package direct tv offers, dish is superior. The only problem I have is integration.

Well I will chime in here since Sats are a hobby of mine. 5 Dishes on the roof :) I have Bev,Dish, and DTV. DTV I think is the best of the bunch as far as content. Dish probably has a better picture but crappy hardware. Bev uses Echostar IRD's so the same as Dish but Bev has by far the best porn. :) OUI OUI If I could only have one it would be DTV hands down.

uh ohh..... Dish is catching up!

I've used both, I agree DTv has more PPV content (NFL Sunday Ticket, NHL Center Ice, etc...) and is slightly easier to integrate, but hey, Dish has a better picture quality, and you usually get to talk to a real human right away...oh also, haven't seena Dish receiver yet melt an access card!

The only IRD's I have seen melt cards are the smaller Sony's (B3,A-B 50,55). More of a Sony issue then a DTV issue. The first couple gen RCA's also had heat issues but they didn't melt the cards.

You want to talk about finicky though try a Dishplayer. I finally fixed the hard drive noise, constant reboots, lockups, guide downloads as this is the best it has ever been. It is retired in my closet :)

I don't think that anyone will argue about the dishplayer being a lemon, but they scored a home-run with the new 501!!
