GKH, Any model numbers you can recommend? It would'nt make sense for me to go out and purchase something and not have it work, as was the case with the JVC HRA591U.

Mitsubishi Models 448 and up Positively have Discrete (And I suspect ALL). ALL Current Sony VCR's have Full Discrete. Every current JVS SVHS has discretes as well(And I THOUGHT all, but As you found out, not true)

Panasonic PVVS4841 does respond to the alt on discrete posted on remote central. You can work around for off with a macro of "discrete on" + .02 delay + "Power"

Have tried discrete codes on NVFJ630, NVHS830, NVHD685, NVHS960 (if I can remember rightly)
mainly used for discrete on/off although I did try the discrete AV codes with positive results (NVHD685 definitely worked although is now an old model)

In general the results were fairly consistent.

Please note that these are European models (can't speak for models in the States as I don't live there)

As for the OFA/RS remote question - no idea as I've never used them, Sorry.

Just in addition to the above info, I've heard that the current bottom-of-the-line Sony does NOT have discrete codes.
