I just installed a home theater for a client and didn't realize how Electronicly Challenged they are. I have already installed an inexpensive JVC HRA591u HI-FI VCR for them. The problem is that I am programming a Universal MX700 remote and I can't find discrete power codes for this VCR. Does anyone have a few suggestions on makes and models that have discrete power codes available?
Thanks, Mark

Current JVC S-Video decks have discrete On/Off commands, I would assume the 591 would as well. Have you tried both sets of codes that are here in the Pronto DIscrete Hex area?

Otherwise, Any Mits or Sony models will have full discrete

mitchmarkl,

I always use Panasonic models as most seem to respond to discrete on/off as well as discrete AV inputs.

A word of warning though , alot of discrete off commands will turn off the video when it is recording so its probably best not to use the command as part of an 'all off' macro.

Impaqt, Thanks for the recommendation, unfortunately I am not familiar with Pronto edit yet, so I can't take advantage of the codes. I tried all the codes I could find in MX editor, but couldn't find any that worked.

Cmo, Thanks for the info. Do you know particular model numbers that work with discrete codes?

Did you try these codes from the MX-700 Database here?

OFA/Radio Shack advanced codes work for both JVC A and B (device codes 0067 and 0008)
discrete off - 247
discrete on - 248
I believe all JVC vcrs respond to these codes

Mitsu VCRs for the past 5 generations will always turn on with a mini-macro of "MENU, MENU", and allways turn off with a mini-macro of "QuickProgram, QuickProgram". Neither of these macros will interrupt a recording in progress.

Dundas, I'm not familiar with RS remotes or One For All, It seems you mentioned two four digit device codes that might work, but then you mentioned two three number codes, I'm confused. Can you explain? I just went to Radio Shack and bought a 15-2116. Will that work? You also mentioned JVC A and B. Not sure what you meant. Sorry to be so thick headed. Can you explain further?
Thanks, Mark

Just wanted to echo mithchmarkl's question to cmo: what specific panasonic vcr's have discrete on/off? In particular, are there any that can be worked with OFA/RS remotes' advanced codes?

I've got an HSU-48 mits, menu, menu will not turn it on but QP,QP will turn it off. Any TV/VTR switch discreets?

Odd on the Menu, Menu thing. Works on every Mits I have sold for the past 5 years.
Workaround: QP, QP, Power = POWER ON.

TV/VTR... Don't know of discretes, but how about a mini-macro workaround...
VTR: Play, stop. (tape must be loaded in machine.)
TV: QP, QP, Power. (resets vcr to "TV" pass through with power off, then turns it on.

You've got to out-think these units that don't have thought put into their design!

Impaqt, I tried that code, it worked on my old JVC, but not on the client's VCR. I also tried An RCA, because I remebered them having a source selection on, but the codes were not reliable. I couldn't get it to go on every time or off every time.

Well, I've done Sony, Mitsu, JVC and Sony without any problems.
