Yes, Daniel, many thanks for this section. This is a great idea.

Let me kick it off with an idea, which I will present with a little less FLAME than the post I tried to send yesterday when I could not remember a password --

Hey, all you installers and industry folks out there, PLEASE, let's start a campaign to inform every manufacturer's design team that they are making themselves and us look like idiots when we try to automate our clients' systems and there are only POWER TOGGLES, not true ON and OFF commands.

Sure, we can turn on most new VCRs or DVDs by issuing a PLAY command. If we have an old SONY remote, we can turn that brand spankin' new plasma display OFF with the antique SYSTEM OFF command (which does not work with the SAT HD100). But why the heck, with all the system integration going on, does my customer's new Hitachi HD-ready TV only have a power toggle?

So, if ANYONE reading this has the address, phone number or email address of the proper people to tell about this, please let us know in this forum.

And Daniel, if you think this is not the proper place or way to do this, please help us all by thinking about it to see what might be the right way to do it.

Thanks,

Ernie

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Since were talking bad remote's, lets talk RCA. Now what kind of company would make remote codes that operate other devices in their same line with the same frequency. Let alone all the other lame things they do with their remotes...

Other than that rant, this is going to be a very popular forum I'm sure.

Thanks again Daniel!!

Yup, some do -- Hitachi actually sent me full discrete codes for the Pronto. Full power/inputs I think are only on the HDTV versions so far.

Definatly need to push the manufacters to wake up and think for a minute, It can't take that much effort to incorporate that in the design, and they leave us out to dry!

Xantech has a new adhesive that sticks great. Just clean the surface with alcohol before you mount it and that flasher will never come off.

We could use a little help from CEDIA to convince manufacturers about discrete codes and other installer features. Maybe I've missed something, but I haven't seen a lot of effort from CEDIA in that area in the last 15 years. In my opinion, that is one of the ways that CEDIA could help us the most.

Oh, I just remembered something-- CEDIA probably couldn't charge anyone a fee for that. Oh well, so much for that idea.
